Garbage Truck Driver (Refuse & Recycling Driver)

Overview As a Garbage Truck Driver (Refuse & Recycling Driver), you’ll operate collection vehicles to serve residential, commercial, or municipal routes. You’ll help keep communities clean by collecting and transporting solid waste and recyclable materials. This is active outdoor work that requires safe driving, dependable route execution, and respectful customer service. Duties Drive garbage trucks, rear loaders, along assigned routes. Collect, load, and unload refuse and recycling; operate rear-end loaders when required. Follow traffic laws, route instructions, safety protocols, and applicable Department of Transportation (DOT), state transportation, and hazardous materials regulations. Inspect vehicles, report mechanical concerns, and use mechanical knowledge to support safe operation. Your impact: Careful collection and safe transport help residents, businesses, and municipalities maintain cleaner, safer communities. Ability to lift heavy objects (frequently 50–65+ lbs) and occasionally assist with manual loading or work in the elements. Previous experience operating commercial or heavy-duty vehicles is strongly preferred. Full-time, early morning start times (typically 5:00 AM – 6:00 AM). Outdoor field work in all weather conditions; physically demanding labor. May require overtime. Clean Motor Vehicle driving record with zero major infractions or DUIs. Minimum requirement is 26 years of age. Experience Commercial truck driving or commercial driving experience; delivery driver experience and route driving are useful. Ability to operate an air-brake-equipped vehicle, as required for the assigned truck. Knowledge of defensive driving, garbage truck operation, and solid waste or municipal waste management is preferred. Ability to perform heavy lifting and load and unload materials safely; outdoor work experience is helpful. Commitment to safety protocol adherence and customer service; familiarity with traffic laws and applicable regulations is essential.
