We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Shipping Manager to handle the timely and accurate fulfillment of outgoing orders at our La Jolla location. This is a temporary position expected to last approximately 3–4 months, with the possibility of continuing in a similar capacity based on business needs and individual performance. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and a proven track record of providing exceptional customer service. Experience handling, packing, and shipping works of art, collectibles, antiques, or other fragile and high-value items is highly desirable. Candidates should be comfortable working carefully with delicate objects and selecting or constructing appropriate protective packaging to ensure items arrive safely at their destination. Key Responsibilities Process product orders by retrieving sold items from storage, carefully packing them, registering shipments, and ensuring timely pickup or delivery by various shipping vendors. Safely handle and package works of art, fragile objects, and other high-value items using appropriate protective materials and packing techniques. Construct or customize packaging as needed using cardboard, foam, bubble wrap, tape, and other packing materials. Inspect items prior to packing and use careful handling practices to minimize the risk of damage during preparation, storage, and transit. Maintain the shipping supply stockroom by organizing, cleaning, and cataloging materials on a regular basis. Monitor packing and shipping supplies and communicate replenishment needs as necessary. Plan and schedule large or specialized shipments, ensuring sufficient storage space, packing materials, and staffing are available. Maintain accurate records of shipped goods by registering tracking numbers and preparing regular shipping reports for management. Coordinate with shipping carriers, delivery services, and other vendors as needed. Troubleshoot and resolve shipping, packaging, inventory-handling, or delivery issues that arise. Qualifications Strong organizational and administrative skills. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. High level of attention to detail and care when handling valuable or fragile objects. Experience handling, packing, or shipping artwork, antiques, collectibles, glass, ceramics, or other delicate items is strongly preferred. Familiarity with appropriate packing techniques and materials for fragile and high-value objects is highly desirable. Proficiency with computers and relevant shipping, inventory, or office software. Ability to lift packages weighing 50 lbs. or more. Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable working with one’s hands and standing for extended periods. Ability to safely use box cutters, paper cutters, tape dispensers, and other common packing tools. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required. An associate’s degree in business or a related field is highly desirable and may support future advancement opportunities. Prior experience constructing custom packages using cardboard, tape, protective materials, and related tools is preferred but not required. Previous experience in a gallery, art handling, museum, auction house, warehouse, fulfillment, fine-art shipping, or similar environment is a plus.
