Freight Service Assistant

Job Summary Lewis Transport Inc is seeking a dependable and organized Freight Service Assistant to support daily freight transportation and logistics operations. The successful candidate will assist with shipment coordination, freight documentation, delivery scheduling, and communication with drivers and customers. This role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to safe and efficient freight services. Key Responsibilities Assist with coordinating freight pickups, deliveries, and transportation schedules. Help organize incoming and outgoing shipments. Verify shipment details, labels, and related transportation documents. Communicate with drivers, customers, and team members about shipment status and delivery arrangements. Track freight movements and report delays or delivery concerns. Maintain accurate shipment records, delivery logs, and service documentation. Assist with receiving, sorting, loading, and unloading freight when assigned. Report damaged shipments, missing items, or handling issues to supervisors. Keep freight storage and work areas clean, organized, and safe. Support daily dispatch and logistics activities. Follow company procedures and applicable transportation and workplace safety requirements. Requirements and Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in freight, shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, or transportation is an advantage. Strong communication and organizational skills. Basic computer skills and accurate recordkeeping abilities. Ability to follow instructions and manage multiple tasks. Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform assigned physical tasks, including lifting and moving freight, within safe limits. Dependable, punctual, and professional attitude. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Work Environment This position may involve working in a transportation office, warehouse, loading area, or freight facility. Duties may require standing, walking, and handling shipments during daily operations. Employees are expected to follow established safety procedures and use appropriate equipment when required.
