Freight Dispatcher

Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Freight Dispatcher to join our logistics team! In this vital role, you will coordinate and manage the transportation of freight, ensuring timely delivery and optimal route planning. Your proactive communication skills and attention to detail will drive efficiency across our road transportation operations. As a Freight Dispatcher, you will serve as the central hub for dispatching freight, maintaining seamless internal and external communication, and ensuring compliance with all DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of supply chain management, utilizing advanced transportation management systems and vehicle dispatch software to keep our freight moving smoothly. Duties Coordinate daily dispatch activities for freight shipments, utilizing transportation management systems such as Oracle Transportation Management and Vehicle Dispatch Software. Communicate effectively with drivers, carriers, customers, and internal teams via multi-line phone systems and phone call management tools to provide real-time updates and resolve issues promptly. Plan routes using GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS technology, and transportation planning strategies to optimize delivery schedules and reduce transit times. Manage shipping & receiving documentation, data entry, and freight tracking to ensure accuracy and compliance with DOT regulations. Oversee fleet management activities including vehicle dispatching, maintenance scheduling, and adherence to safety standards. Collaborate with logistics teams to support supply chain operations, 3PL (third-party logistics) providers, and internal communication channels such as SyteLine and AS400 systems. Handle customer service inquiries related to freight status, delivery timelines, or shipment concerns with professionalism and courtesy. Maintain organized records of dispatch logs, incident reports, inbound/outbound shipments, and compliance documentation for audit readiness. Experience Proven experience in road transportation operations or logistics dispatching within a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with transportation management systems such as Oracle Transportation Management or similar platforms like Vehicle Dispatch Software. Strong understanding of DOT regulations governing freight transport and safety standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for data entry, analysis, and reporting purposes. Knowledge of GIS, GPS technology, supply chain processes, and logistics best practices. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. Effective communication skills—both verbal and written—with phone etiquette expertise for professional interactions across multiple channels.
