Summary:

This Freight Coordinator Intern  involves learning about our internal freight processes and supporting our Operations team in their day-to-day handling of live freight. The Intern-Freight Coordinator will be under the supervision of a Team Leader or Operations Manager. You will be working with a strong set of standard operating procedures. Excellent customer service at all stages of the forwarding process is expected. As this is an internship role, you will be required to be present at the office (Suite 204, 160 Traders Blvd. E, Mississauga. ON. L4Z 3K7) for the duration of your internship period which is to complete 500 hours of in-house training and work experience. (Approximately 3 months).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As outlined by your Team Leader or Operations Manager.
  • Responsibilities can include:
    •  booking details and follow up with customer updates, shipment pre-advice / pre-alerts (Trace shipments daily and update client/agent on the shipment status as per customer guidelines)
    • Opening files in CW1 and ensuring all documents are accurate and complete prior to the shipment arrival or departure date
    • Ensure all E-Manifest filings are completed in a timely manner as per regulations. Transfer of arrival notices/manifest to customers and/or their nominated customs brokers, truckers on import shipments
    • Liaise with third parties in accordance with customer requirements such as pick up and deliveries.
    • Ensure customs formalities are completed by our in-house custom broker in a timely manner and/or RNS received.
  • Ensure all jobs are processed based on expected and agreed handling process

  • A high level of energy and a "can-do" positive attitude
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills

 

Education and Experience:

  • 3 plus years relevant work experience in the freight forwarding industry or logistics field a plus
  • Familiarity with CargoWise’s enterprise system a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or any other related field preferred
  • CIFFA qualifications preferred
  • DG certification preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds
