Forklift Operator/General Laborer Job description: Monday-Saturday 10 hour day, rotating shifts (day/night 1 week at a time) The Forklift Driver / General Laborer is responsible for safely operating forklifts and other authorized material-handling equipment while providing general labor support throughout the mill. This position assists with the movement of materials, supplies, equipment, and other items needed to support daily production activities. The employee must maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety, follow established operating procedures, use required personal protective equipment (PPE), and assist with maintaining clean and organized work areas. This is a hands-on position in an industrial manufacturing environment and requires employees to be flexible in performing forklift and general production-support duties as operational needs require. Employees may be exposed to: Moving forklifts and industrial equipment. Heavy materials and machinery. Noise associated with manufacturing operations. Dust, dirt, heat, cold, and changing environmental conditions. Indoor and outdoor work areas. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Production activities requiring continuous awareness of surrounding hazards. PAY RANGE: Dependent on Experience Hours: Typically, 60 hours per week, Monday-Saturday PAY FREQUENCY: Bi-Weekly Responsibilities: Safely operate forklifts to move materials, supplies, equipment, and other loads throughout designated mill and storage areas. Load, unload, transport, stage, and organize materials as directed. Inspect the forklift before operation and report damage, mechanical problems, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor. Operate forklifts at safe speeds and follow designated traffic routes, pedestrian restrictions, and plant safety rules. Maintain awareness of pedestrians, equipment, structures, and other hazards while operating powered industrial equipment. Ensure loads are stable and properly positioned before transporting them. Park and secure forklifts properly when equipment is not in use. Do not operate equipment that is damaged or considered unsafe until it has been properly evaluated and released for service Assist production personnel with material handling and general mill operations as directed. Perform physical labor associated with production, shipping, receiving, material staging, cleanup, and general plant activities. Assist with organizing materials, tools, equipment, and work areas. Perform routine housekeeping, including removing debris and maintaining clean, orderly, and safe workspaces. Assist employees and supervisors with production-support activities as assigned. Follow instructions from supervisors and communicate promptly when work cannot be completed safely. Perform other reasonable duties related to mill operations as assigned. Skills/Qualification: MUST hold a current and valid Texas Driver License A High School diploma or equivalent of one-year experience. Previous experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing, warehouse, industrial, steel, pipe, or similar environment preferred. Ability to complete required forklift training and demonstrate safe operation before independently operating powered industrial equipment. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. Manual dexterity required for operating, machinery, hand tools and handheld technical devices. The employee must have no physical or psychological limitations that would prevent them from safely performing rigging, material handling, standard procedures, and overhead crane operations. Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow within the position. Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require over-time.
