Forklift Mechanic / Maintenance Worker About us Paden Cold Storage We are a cold-storage warehouse in Norfolk, Virginia, supporting refrigerated and frozen food storage operations. Keeping our equipment dependable and our facility safe is essential to our daily work. Our maintenance team plays a key role in keeping the warehouse running smoothly and meeting our safety and food quality standards. What We’re Looking For We’re seeking a dependable Electric Forklift Mechanic / General Maintenance Technician with hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing electric warehouse equipment. The ideal candidate has strong electrical and mechanical skills, takes pride in doing repairs correctly, and is comfortable handling general facility maintenance. You should be able to work independently, respond to breakdowns, stay on top of preventive maintenance, and communicate clearly with our Chief Engineer and warehouse team. Experience with Crown equipment is preferred. This position requires working in refrigerated and freezer areas and a consistent commitment to safe work practices. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair electric forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, stock pickers, and other warehouse equipment. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections to keep equipment reliable and ready for use. Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues, including batteries, chargers, motors, brakes, and steering systems. Complete general facility repairs, including plumbing, lighting, doors, dock equipment, and building upkeep. Respond promptly to breakdowns and prioritize repairs to minimize warehouse downtime. Record inspections, repairs, parts used, and completed work orders in the maintenance management system. Identify unsafe equipment and remove it from service until repairs are completed. Coordinate with the Chief Engineer and outside service providers on repairs and maintenance projects. Maintain tools, spare parts, and a clean, organized work area. Follow lockout/tagout procedures, company safety policies, and food safety requirements while working throughout refrigerated and freezer areas. Skills Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing electric forklifts and warehouse equipment , including reach trucks, pallet jacks, and stock pickers. Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems using a multimeter and read wiring diagrams. Experience servicing forklift batteries, chargers, motors, controllers, brakes, steering, and hydraulic systems. Ability to perform preventive maintenance, identify safety concerns, and accurately document repairs. General facility maintenance skills, including basic plumbing, mechanical repairs, and building upkeep. Knowledge of safe work practices, including lockout/tagout and proper battery handling. Ability to work independently, prioritize repairs, and communicate equipment issues clearly. Willingness to work in refrigerated and freezer areas and respond to urgent equipment breakdowns. Preferred: Crown forklift experience; experience maintaining dock equipment, overhead doors, and working in a cold-storage or food warehouse.
