Foodservice Purchasing Agent

Purpose of this Job: Responsible for managing bakery and foodservice category products as necessary. Will purchase and develop all product in the categories. Directly responsible for cultivating, developing, and maintaining these particular categories. Maintain ongoing rapport with product vendors. Reporting directly to Head Purchasing Agent. Essential Functions of the Job: 1. Will review, analyze, manage and purchase inventories of vendors assigned. 2. Will be responsible for managing the categories to conform to departmental standards. 3. Responsible to be aware of market conditions and use awareness to anticipate the need to make purchases. 4. Responsible to be knowledgeable of Bakery and Foodservice trends and the products to be placed in bakery and foodservice departments. 5. Write weekly, Monthly ads, promotions and prebooks according to the proper seasons and availability on all vendors assigned. 6. Manage pricing on all products to be competitive and within the profit expectations of the company. 7. Closely work with Hometown Markets to facilitate communication and product lines. 8. Work with Content Manager to Develop planograms and programs on the vendors assigned. 9. Responsible to negotiate with vendors and brokers to increase marketing share as well as growth program incentives and pricing. 10. With all vendors, explore possibilities of backhaul opportunities for advantage to the company. 11. Communicate with customers, vendors, and sales associates to maintain a good, professional rapport. 12. Work with Content Manager to develop a Marketing calendar for all vendors assigned 13. Inform customers of available options for advertisement and promotional sales of products. 14. Monitor sales records and trends to anticipate consumer buying patterns to manage inventory. 15. Maintain inventory turns that conform to company expectations. 16. Work to develop new vendor opportunities thus increasing the supply chain. 17. Train Hometown Markets and Sales Dept when necessary, regarding new product or vendor information. 18. Prepare vendor bill back statements for regular products, TPR’s, Food/Trade Show deals, seasonal shipments, and follow through for payment. 19. Solicit and prepare information for Food/Trade Show booklets. 20. Create, prepare and communicate effectively product lines, deals and programs 21. Investigate and suggest appropriate retail formats. 22. Travel to store locations as needed. 23. Verify with all vendors GFSI requirements 24. All other duties as assigned Number and title of direct reports: None Equipment used in the Job: Computer, various software and hardware packages, basic office equipment, email. Also, foodservice equipment including slicers, ovens, deep fryers, and microwaves. Reliable transportation as needed. Educational Requirements: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Marketing, Sales, Business or related field. Experience can be substituted for degree. Number of years Experience: Minimum of three to five year’s experience; continuing education can be substituted for experience. Reasoning Ability: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, algebra, geometry, and statistics. Analytical skills as well as advanced financial aptitude.
