Food Service Driver

About the Role The Food Service Driver plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and safe delivery of food products to Raymond Yorkville Elementary. This position is responsible for operating a commercial vehicle to transport meals while maintaining strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards. The driver acts as a key liaison between the food service department and the school, providing excellent customer service to staff and students. By managing delivery schedules efficiently, the Food Service Driver helps support the overall nutrition program and contributes to the well-being of the school community. This role requires a dependable individual who prioritizes safety, quality, and professionalism in every aspect of their work. Job Responsibilities Operate a commercial vehicle safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and regulations to deliver food products to the school. Ensure all food items are handled and transported following established food safety and sanitation guidelines to prevent contamination. Maintain accurate delivery records, including times, quantities, and any discrepancies or issues encountered during transport. Communicate effectively with food service staff and school personnel to coordinate delivery schedules and address any concerns. Perform routine vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety issues promptly to ensure reliable operation. Minimum Qualifications Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record. Demonstrated experience operating commercial vehicles safely. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards relevant to food transportation. Ability to follow detailed delivery schedules and maintain accurate records. Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with school staff. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working in food service or school nutrition programs. Certification in food safety (e.g., ServSafe or equivalent). Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge. Familiarity with the Raymond Yorkville Elementary community and its operational procedures. Ability to use GPS and route planning tools effectively. Skills The Food Service Driver utilizes their commercial vehicle operation skills daily to ensure safe and efficient transportation of meals. Food safety and sanitation knowledge are applied rigorously to maintain the quality and safety of all food items during delivery. Customer service skills are essential for positive interactions with school personnel, fostering clear communication and problem resolution. Attention to detail is critical when managing delivery documentation and adhering to schedules. Additionally, preferred skills such as food safety certification and route planning enhance the driver's ability to perform their duties with greater efficiency and professionalism.
