Hunger at Home is seeking a detail-oriented Food Safety, Data & Inventory Assistant to support the organization's food recovery, inventory, food distribution, and nonprofit partner programs. This position will have a strong focus on food safety, inventory accuracy, product traceability, and operational recordkeeping. The employee will work closely with Hunger at Home's operations and kitchen teams to help ensure donated food is properly received, documented, stored, monitored, and distributed in accordance with Hunger at Home's food safety procedures. The position also provides administrative and data support to ensure food recovery, inventory, distribution, and program records remain accurate, organized, and up to date. Key Responsibilities Support food safety procedures during the receiving, storage, handling, and distribution of donated food. Inspect incoming food for visible signs of damage, spoilage, temperature concerns, packaging problems, contamination, or other food safety issues and promptly report concerns to appropriate staff. Assist with checking and documenting food temperatures when required. Help ensure refrigerated, frozen, and dry food is stored appropriately and that storage areas are maintained in accordance with Hunger at Home food safety and sanitation procedures. Monitor inventory for damaged, compromised, or questionable products and identify items that require review by appropriate operations or kitchen staff. Maintain accurate batch, receiving, inventory, storage, and distribution records to support product traceability. Follow established procedures for identifying, separating, and documenting food placed on hold pending further review. Assist with inventory rotation and organization to support safe and efficient food distribution. Enter food donation, recovery, inventory, and distribution information into Hunger at Home's tracking systems. Maintain accurate inventory records in Sortly and other internal systems. Record incoming and outgoing food quantities, weights, product information, batch information, and related documentation. Assist with routine physical inventory counts and compare physical inventory with system records. Identify inventory discrepancies and provide information to the Operations Manager for review. Maintain organized records related to food donations, distributions, nonprofit partners, and other operational programs. Compile weekly and monthly food recovery, inventory, and distribution data. Prepare spreadsheets and basic operational reports for management review. Assist with collecting documentation and data needed for grants, contracts, audits, inspections, and program reporting. Review records for missing or incomplete information and follow up with appropriate staff. Maintain inventory labels, receiving documentation, batch records, temperature records, and distribution documentation. Follow Hunger at Home sanitation, personal hygiene, safe food-handling, and warehouse safety procedures. Scan, organize, and maintain electronic and physical operational documents. Assist the CEO and operations team with administrative tasks related to food recovery, inventory, food safety, and distribution activities. Provide additional food safety, data entry, inventory, and operational support as assigned. Qualifications Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Strong commitment to food safety and proper food-handling practices. Good organizational and recordkeeping skills. Ability to recognize and report potential food safety concerns, including damaged packaging, spoilage, temperature issues, or other product abnormalities. Comfortable working with food in warehouse, refrigerator, and freezer environments. Comfortable using Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or similar programs. Comfortable learning inventory, food tracking, and database systems. Able to communicate clearly with operations, kitchen, and management staff.
