Food Manufacturing Logistics and Warehouse Manager
Top Chef MealsAbout Top Chef Meals. Top Chef Meals is a third-generation, family- and veteran-owned USDA FSIS-inspected (EST. 1833) frozen food co-manufacturer, direct-to-consumer meal producer, and 3PL cold storage provider in Westchester County, NY. We are SQF Edition 9 certified and produce for national co-manufacturing clients alongside our own Top Chef Meals. The role. The Logistics & Warehouse Manager plans and runs fulfillment for every channel TCM ships: co-manufacturing customers, 3PL cold storage clients, and direct-to-consumer orders for Top Chef Meals This is a planning role first. Booking a truck is the easy part; the value is in seeing capacity conflicts, peak weeks, and freight cost weeks ahead and solving them before they reach the loading dock. The role also directs the pick, pack-out, and loading crew and owns the loading docks and material-handling equipment. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLogistics Planning Build and own the rolling ship plan — daily, weekly, and a 4–8 week outlook — from customer POs, the production schedule, DTC order forecasts, and 3PL client releases. Translate the ship plan into dock, labor, equipment, and frozen outbound staging requirements. Flag capacity conflicts to ownership before the week they occur. Sit in weekly production planning with Production, Culinary, and Procurement. Align finished-goods completion dates to customer ship dates and push back when a production change breaks a ship commitment. Set the inbound receiving calendar with Procurement so that no freight is received on production days, and sequence inbound and outbound across the loading docks. Plan peak periods — holidays, DTC promotions, co-manufacturing launches — for labor, pack-out materials, freezer staging space, and carrier capacity. Design shipping programs by customer: mode (parcel, LTL, consolidated, truckload), consolidation opportunities, order minimums, delivery windows, and ship-day cutoffs. Build landed freight and fulfillment cost into co-manufacturing quotes and DTC pricing; supply freight assumptions for new customer bids. Report monthly on shipment volume, fulfillment cost, plan adherence, and service levels, with a forward look at the next 60 days. Fulfillment Operations Own order management across channels: receive, validate, and release orders; confirm availability with Procurement; allocate short product according to rules set by ownership. Run pick, pack, and load: pick finished goods from the locations Procurement assigns at put-away, and report any location, lot, or count discrepancy to Procurement the same day. Build standard work for pick paths, outbound staging, and pack-out lines; track labor per order and per case and drive it down. Enforce customer routing guides and retailer/distributor compliance — labeling, pallet configuration, appointment rules, and documentation — to prevent chargebacks. 3PL clients: act as primary contact for releases and outbound; verify availability with Procurement before scheduling; stop any release involving a hold, lien, payment question, or title dispute and refer it to ownership; supply activity data to Accounting for billing. Direct-to-Consumer Fulfillment Own the DTC fulfillment system end to end for Top Chef Meals and House of Sumac: order release, pick, insulated pack-out, refrigerant, labeling, and carrier handoff. Design and validate pack-outs by ship zone and season — box size, insulation, dry ice or gel quantity — with documented temperature testing showing product arrives frozen. Set ship days and cutoffs so product is not in transit over weekends or holidays; choose carrier service levels by zone. Lay out and staff the pack-out line for throughput and accuracy; plan pack-out material needs and give them to Procurement to buy. Handle delivery exceptions — late, thawed, damaged, or mis-shipped orders — and run root cause on every repeat failure. Control DTC cost per order across freight, packaging, and refrigerant.
