Fleet Technician - Mechanic

POSITION OVERVIEW: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fleet Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of buses and county vehicles, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely. Your expertise will play a vital role in supporting our operations and delivering top-notch service to our clients. This is a daytime, weekday only position, with flexibility for shift schedule within the business day. This job posting is presented as an overview and should not be considered all-inclusive. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: · Typical tasks include, but are not limited to, removing/replacing and servicing vehicle engines, transmissions, suspensions, steering systems, brake systems, electrical/electronic systems, heating/air conditioning systems, and tires/wheels. · Parts identification, organization, inventory and order placements · Originating and completing maintenance documentation and records · Measure tires for wear and inspect tires for damage and proper inflation · Operate County vehicles for maintenance checks, and on road service calls · Work closely with all transit drivers and assist with their daily vehicle needs, which may include the use and connectivity of software programs, tools or features specific to public transit, in addition to any physical vehicle repair issues · Relocate snow and ice in and around the facility · Complete general minor facility repair tasks · Keep all work areas clean and safe · Other duties as assigned by the Transit Director MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: This position is a safety sensitive position and is subject to Charlevoix County Transit Drug Testing Policy Must have and maintain a valid driver's license SKILLS & ABILITIES: · Must have the physical ability, with or without accommodations, to complete the primary duties & responsibilities listed herein · follow basic safety rules for working in a commercial vehicle maintenance shop · must have, and demonstrate, safe working habits at all times · Ability to work independently, with limited supervision Environment: This position is based primarily in a commercial garage facility, with occasional exposure to elements while attending to emergency repairs or breakdowns. Travel may occasionally be required for work at other county facilities, or for additional training.
