Since 1968, Landscape Design Services has provided landscape architecture, construction, and maintenance services throughout West Michigan. Our people are the strength behind our work, and we’re looking for an experienced Fleet Technician to help keep our crews’ vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, and ready to work. If you enjoy troubleshooting mechanical problems and working on a variety of equipment, this role offers plenty of variety—from commercial mowers and small engines to skid steers, wheel loaders, passenger vehicles, and semi-tractors. What You’ll Do Reporting to the Fleet/Shop Manager, you will: Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems, identify the cause, and complete appropriate repairs. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and routine services, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, and battery replacement. Service and repair fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, commercial mowers, and small equipment. Complete electrical troubleshooting, wiring repairs, and basic fabrication, welding, and cutting projects. Accurately document inspections, labor, parts, maintenance, and repairs in work orders and required systems. Assist with DOT maintenance records and inspection documentation. Communicate equipment concerns, repair delays, and parts needs to the Fleet/Shop Manager. Maintain a clean, organized shop and follow safe work practices. Operate vehicles and equipment when necessary and authorized. What You’ll Bring At least two years of experience in automotive or equipment service, maintenance, and repair. Master Mechanic certification or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and wiring. Working knowledge of basic welding and cutting. Ability to read and follow technical information and written, verbal, and graphic instructions. Basic computer skills and the ability to complete electronic work orders. A valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements. Dependability, attention to detail, and strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and expand your mechanical knowledge. Diesel engine repair experience and Spanish-language skills are preferred. Schedule and Work Environment Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Extended hours may be required based on operational needs. Saturdays are not normally required but may be required during winter operations. Work is primarily performed in our fleet and equipment maintenance shop, with occasional outdoor work and local travel. The role involves bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working beneath or around equipment, with frequent lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting or moving of up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
