The Kings County Public Works Department is currently seeking a d edicated, team-oriented individual to fill one vacancy for: FLEET SERVICE ATTENDANT $36,150.40 - $44,116.80 Annually Kings County Public Works Department is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Fleet Service Attendant to help keep our County vehicle fleet running smoothly. In this role, you’ll assign and dispatch motor pool vehicles, maintain accurate computerized records, inspect and service fleet units, and support essential daily operations. Some duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be performed in a learning capacity for entry-level (I Level) positions. Assigns and schedules motor pool vehicles according to user needs, availability and other criteria; dispatches vehicles to user departments and checks in returned vehicles; informs vehicle users of policies and procedures pertaining to the use of vehicles including record keeping requirements. Maintains a variety of records using computerized and manual systems concerning vehicle assignments, mileage, dates of service, and other information; prepares reports and spreadsheets; reconciles mileage logs and resolves discrepancies; creates and updates files on new cars. Ensures that the interior and exterior of vehicles are clean; washes, waxes, vacuums and removes trash from vehicles; fuels vehicles; documents and resolves complaints from users regarding the cleanliness or condition of vehicles. Performs minor preventive maintenance on motor pool vehicles; inspects, adds and/or changes fluid levels and wipers; inspects general operating condition and safety problems; refers vehicles for repairs and regular maintenance service; charges and replaces batteries; replaces bulbs and makes other minor repairs; assists mechanics in coordination of preventative maintenance program. Takes vehicle repair requests, troubleshoots vehicle problems; coordinates and schedules needed repairs; prepares and records work orders. As assigned, supervises, transports and controls the work of trustee/incarcerated individuals, work-in-lieu, welfare-to-work, and/or other volunteer works and alternative work forces including assignments and oversight of vehicle operation and maintenance. Picks up and delivers vehicles. Performs related duties as assigned. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Experience: One year of experience performing general clerical duties in support of an automotive shop or service function or performing routine automotive maintenance work.
