Position Overview
The Fleet Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in overseeing safety training, conducting audits, and analyzing safety performance for the Dollar General Dedicated Fleet. In this position, you will ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and CSA regulations to meet all federal, state, and local safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage all aspects of new driver safety orientation, conduct safety ride-alongs, review accidents, and facilitate remedial safety training. (60%)
• Oversee the accident review process and provide counseling following driver incidents. Implement SMITH System Training and manage remedial road tests according to DOT guidelines. (20%)
• Develop strong relationships with drivers and the maintenance team through regular interactions and semi-monthly safety meetings. Perform daily checks on tractor equipment for damages and coordinate with the shop for necessary repairs. (10%)
• Foster a culture of safety by assessing the performance of all drivers and identifying additional training needs. (10%)
Qualifications:
• In-depth knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Department of Transportation regulations, and Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) Program.
• Willingness to travel (25%).
• Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods.
• Understanding of paper and electronic logs, Hours of Service, and SMITH System.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong presentation abilities.
• Independent worker with a keen attention to detail.
• Outstanding customer service and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Flexible availability for work hours.
Experience and Education:
• Preferred commercial motor vehicle driving experience.
• Minimum of two years of experience in transportation safety.
• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Experience in public speaking or adult education is a plus.
• At least two years of safety training experience within a medium to large transportation organization.
• Classroom instruction experience preferred, along with administrative or office experience.
