Carter Electric, LLCFleet Operations Manager Carter Electric, LLC is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and driven Fleet Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day management of our diverse vehicle and equipment fleet. Our fleet supports commercial, industrial, civil, service, and utility electrical operations throughout Florida and includes approximately 100 powered vehicles, 60+ trailers, and a variety of heavy and specialty equipment. This is a hands-on operations management position, not primarily a mechanic position. The successful candidate will be responsible for keeping fleet operations organized, responsive, compliant, and aligned with the needs of our field teams. Primary Purpose of the Role The Fleet Operations Manager serves as the operational quarterback for Carter Electric's fleet. This individual is responsible for ensuring fleet reliability, minimizing equipment downtime, maintaining accurate fleet systems and regulatory compliance, coordinating maintenance and repairs, managing vendors and internal fleet resources, and keeping leadership and field operations informed. Success in this position requires more than reacting to repair requests. We are looking for someone who anticipates problems, investigates inconsistencies, establishes priorities, communicates proactively, and takes ownership of issues from identification through final resolution. Core Responsibilities Manage day-to-day operations for company vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, and specialty fleet assets. Direct and prioritize the work of the Mobile Fleet Mechanic and other personnel supporting fleet and logistics operations. Maintain accurate fleet records, asset assignments, maintenance schedules, inspection records, registrations, compliance documentation, and repair histories. Manage preventive maintenance programs and ensure maintenance is performed based on appropriate mileage, hours, time, manufacturer recommendations, and operating conditions. Triage breakdowns and repair requests based on safety, operational impact, downtime, cost, and availability of replacement assets. Coordinate internal repairs and outside vendors while determining the most efficient and cost-effective repair strategy. Maintain ownership of fleet issues from initial report through repair, documentation, and confirmation that the asset has returned to service. Communicate proactively with project managers, operators, vendors, and company leadership regarding significant repairs, downtime, changing conditions, and expected completion. Maintain a clear and visible system for tracking active repairs, pending parts, vendor work, compliance items, and other fleet action items. Review repair estimates and vendor recommendations, challenge questionable findings when appropriate, and make informed recommendations before company resources are committed. Identify recurring failures, excessive repair costs, aging assets, and other trends that may warrant replacement or changes in fleet strategy. Develop and maintain strong relationships with dealerships, repair facilities, equipment dealers, parts suppliers, rental companies, and other fleet vendors. Fleet Systems & Data Management The Fleet Operations Manager is expected to actively utilize technology to manage the department rather than relying on memory, notebooks, or informal processes. Responsibilities include: Maintain Fleetio as the primary system of record for fleet maintenance and asset information. Ensure repair issues, service history, meter readings, inspections, reminders, assignments, and asset information remain accurate and current. Investigate conflicting or questionable fleet data rather than making assumptions. Monitor overdue maintenance, inspections, registrations, open repair issues, fault codes, and other fleet exceptions.
