Job description: Overview We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fleet Mechanic to join our construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for keeping our fleet of approximately 90 vehicles and pieces of equipment — including company vehicles and equipment maintained on behalf of a partner company — safe, reliable, and ready to support field operations. Your expertise in diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance will help minimize downtime and extend the life of company assets. This position offers an opportunity to work hands-on across a varied fleet of trucks, trailers, and construction equipment, develop your craft, and play a key role in keeping our crews moving. Responsibilities Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on company trucks, trailers, and construction equipment, including oil and fluid changes, filter replacements, and scheduled service intervals. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, including more complex or intermittent issues. Diagnose, repair, and replace brakes, struts, shocks, and other suspension and steering components. Perform tire inspections, rotations, replacements, and basic alignment checks. Read and interpret diagnostic codes and technical/service manuals to guide repairs. Respond to roadside or jobsite breakdowns, perform field repairs when feasible, and coordinate towing or outside repairs when necessary. Keep track of parts, tools, and shop supplies on hand, flag what needs to be reordered, and order replacement parts and consumables in a timely manner to prevent delays. Keep the mechanic workspace clean, safe, and organized, with tools and equipment stored, labeled, and accessible. Maintain detailed, accurate service logs for all vehicles and equipment using Fleetio. Track upcoming maintenance and inspection due dates to help keep the fleet in compliance and minimize downtime. Conduct DOT and pre-/post-trip inspections and inspect the fleet for compliance with DOT and manufacturer standards. Adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols during all work. Skills Hands-On experience as a mechanic/technician preferred, ideally with fleet, commercial vehicle experience Solid working knowledge of automotive and light-to-heavy-duty systems: engines, brakes, suspension, electrical, and hydraulics. Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues. Comfortable using fleet management software for recordkeeping (Fleetio experience a plus). ASE certification(s) preferred (e.g., Brakes, Suspension & Steering, or similar); willingness to obtain additional certifications a plus. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required; CDL strongly preferred or willingness to obtain one within 90 days. Comfortable working with a mid-to-full set of personal hand tools; larger shop equipment and specialty tools provided. Working knowledge of OSHA and DOT safety standards. Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a safety-first mindset. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in varied outdoor, warehouse, and construction site conditions.
