FLEET MECHANIC (Fedex Contractor)

Overview LBA Delivery Services is an independent contracted service provider supporting FedEx final-mile delivery operations. We are seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel / Fleet Mechanic based in Deansboro to support our Utica and Syracuse delivery fleets. Our fleet is made up largely of Ford step vans, along with other types of commercial delivery step vans. The majority of our in-house work involves the repairs and preventative maintenance needed to keep a high-use delivery fleet safe and on the road: brakes, tires, fluid services, general maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repair of mechanical or electrical issues within our capabilities. Diesel experience is preferred, but this role is intended for a well-rounded mechanic with practical light-duty/commercial truck experience and the ability to work independently. Responsibilities Perform routine preventative maintenance and general fleet repairs on commercial delivery vehicles, primarily step vans. Complete common maintenance and repair work including brakes, tires, oil and fluid changes, filters, batteries, lighting, belts, and other wear items. Diagnose mechanical and electrical concerns and complete repairs efficiently using appropriate diagnostic tools, technical information, and sound mechanical judgment. Inspect steering, suspension, cooling, HVAC, drivetrain, electrical, and related vehicle systems and complete repairs within experience and shop capabilities. Work on both gas and diesel-powered fleet vehicles as needed; diesel troubleshooting and repair experience is preferred. Perform vehicle inspections and help ensure fleet units are safe, reliable, and ready for daily delivery operations. Identify repairs that should be completed internally versus those that should be referred to an outside specialty shop or vendor. Maintain accurate service records and documentation for preventative maintenance, repairs, parts, and vehicle condition. Prioritize repairs based on safety, operational urgency, and fleet availability in coordination with operations leadership. Safely road-test or move vehicles as needed to verify repairs and diagnose concerns. Provide support to both Utica and Syracuse fleet operations; light regional travel may be required for specific fleet issues. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow company safety procedures. Qualifications Hands-on mechanic experience with light-duty trucks, commercial vehicles, fleet vehicles, or similar automotive equipment preferred. Approximately 3 years of mechanic experience preferred; strong practical ability and quality of work are important considerations. Diesel experience is preferred but not required. Must have access to appropriate personal mechanic tools for day-to-day repair work. Strong working knowledge of general maintenance, brakes, tires, fluid service, and mechanical troubleshooting. Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and make sound decisions about repair needs and vehicle safety. Comfort using hand tools, power tools, and automotive diagnostic equipment. Valid driver’s license required; CDL is preferred but not required. Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of fleet repair work, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and working around commercial vehicles.
