Role Description The Fleet Mechanic is a full-time, on-site role located in Powhatan, VA, responsible for maintaining and repairing company trucks, trailers, and moving equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine inspections, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and completing repairs on engines, brakes, suspensions, and hydraulic systems. The Fleet Mechanic will conduct preventive maintenance, maintain accurate service records, and identify parts and materials needed for repairs. This role collaborates with operations staff to schedule maintenance, minimize downtime, and ensure all vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards. The position may also involve occasional emergency repairs and supporting vehicle readiness for long-distance and local moves. Qualifications Strong maintenance and repair skills, including experience with Maintenance, Maintenance & Repair, and Heavy Equipment. Ability to perform Preventive Maintenance tasks to extend equipment life and reduce unexpected breakdowns. Proficient Troubleshooting skills for diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on fleet vehicles. Previous experience as a fleet, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanic in a transportation or logistics environment preferred. Working knowledge of vehicle safety standards and DOT regulations is beneficial. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance software effectively. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate service documentation. Capability to lift and move heavy parts and work in various weather conditions in a shop and yard environment. High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training or certifications (e.g., ASE, diesel technology) are a plus. Valid driver’s license; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is helpful but not required.
