Position Summary The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing the company's fleet of delivery vehicles and trucks. The mechanic will help ensure all vehicles are safe, reliable, properly maintained, and compliant with applicable federal, state, and company safety requirements. Essential Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections on fleet vehicles. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle problems. Perform oil changes, brake service, tire replacement, suspension repairs, battery replacement, and other routine maintenance. Inspect vehicles for safety issues and identify repairs needed before vehicles are placed into service. Troubleshoot engine, transmission, cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems. Perform repairs on delivery vans, step vans, box trucks, and other fleet vehicles. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections as needed. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts, and maintenance performed. Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure required services are completed on time. Respond to vehicle breakdowns and perform roadside repairs when necessary. Coordinate with management regarding major repairs and vehicles requiring outside service. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Properly use and maintain mechanic tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, and other shop equipment. Follow OSHA, DOT, manufacturer, company, and applicable safety requirements. Identify potential safety hazards and immediately report vehicles that are unsafe to operate. Assist with maintaining adequate inventory of commonly used parts, fluids, filters, and supplies. Road-test vehicles after repairs to verify that repairs were completed properly. Perform other duties related to fleet maintenance as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience as an automotive, diesel, fleet, or heavy-duty mechanic preferred. Experience working on commercial fleet vehicles is a plus. Knowledge of gasoline and/or diesel engines, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and general vehicle maintenance. Ability to use diagnostic tools and mechanical equipment. Ability to read and understand repair manuals and vehicle service information. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple repair and maintenance tasks. Strong attention to detail and commitment to vehicle safety. Physical Requirements The position may require: Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working in confined areas. Lifting and carrying tools, parts, and equipment. Working outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate vehicles for testing and maintenance purposes. Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, lifts, jacks, and diagnostic equipment. Work Schedule The Fleet Mechanic required to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays, depending on fleet operating requirements and vehicle availability. Performance Expectations The Fleet Mechanic is expected to: Keep fleet vehicles safe and operational. Complete preventive maintenance on schedule. Minimize vehicle downtime.
