Fleet Mechanic Delta Area Transit Authority (DATA) - Escanaba, MI Keep Delta County Moving Delta Area Transit Authority (DATA) is seeking an experienced, dependable, and motivated Fleet Mechanic to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician who enjoys solving problems, working independently, and taking pride in maintaining a fleet that serves the community every day. As part of DATA's two-person maintenance team, you'll help maintain a growing fleet of approximately 30 vehicles, including transit buses, full-size vans, minivans, and automobiles. Why Join DATA? ✅ Modern, well-maintained fleet ✅ State-of-the-art facility ✅ All tools and equipment provided ✅ Stable year-round employment ✅ Supportive two-person maintenance team ✅ Meaningful work serving your community ✅ Variety of work with no flat-rate pressure ✅ Opportunities for training and professional growth Outstanding Benefits Package Competitive wages based on experience Paid vacation Paid personal time Paid holidays Health insurance with excellent coverage Dental insurance Vision insurance Life insurance Short-Term Disability Insurance Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Simple IRA retirement plan with 3% employer match Funeral leave Contractual bonuses Annual work boot allowance Essential Duties Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, steering, suspension, and brake system issues Use computerized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot vehicle systems Perform electrical repairs and wiring repairs as needed Service and repair gasoline-powered vehicles and transit buses Assist with air conditioning system diagnosis and repair Complete required maintenance records and inspection reports Conduct road testing when necessary to verify repairs Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Work collaboratively with the maintenance team to maximize vehicle reliability and fleet availability Assist with additional fleet maintenance duties as assigned Qualifications Experience as a mechanic, fleet technician, diesel technician, automotive technician, or related position Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills Ability to work independently and efficiently manage priorities Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail Experience with automotive electrical systems HVAC/air conditioning experience is a plus Good communication and teamwork skills Valid driver's license required Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Michigan Chauffeur License Ability to safely operate and road test agency vehicles About the Position At DATA, mechanics do much more than repair vehicles.
