The Fleet Supervisor plans, organizes, and supervises maintenance activities for the City Fleet shop. This will include preventive maintenance and repair activities of municipal fleet equipment. May assist in the development of equipment specifications. Responsible for the safety program for Fleet Shop staff and the safety inspection of the City's equipment. Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff involved in fleet maintenance activities. Supervise the City's equipment maintenance facilities and oversee preventative maintenance and repair activities for municipal equipment such as fire apparatus, medic units, police cars, large and small construction equipment and a wide range of other gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel powered vehicles. May conduct research on assigned topics, prepares and presents technical reports on operations and activities, may participate in capital development and improvement projects. Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives; establishes schedules and methods for repair, maintenance, and operations; implements policies and procedures; may perform short- and long-term planning for Fleet operations. Responsible for the selection, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff; assigns work and ensures appropriate training is provided; investigates complaints; recommends and administers disciplinary actions; handles sensitive personnel matters and recommends grievance responses; exercises full supervision over employees. Participates in the development of the Section work plan; assigns work activities, projects, and programs; monitors work flow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures. Recommends improvements and modifications as needed. Participates in Section budget preparation and administration; prepares and administers assigned budget; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for equipment and supplies; monitors and controls expenditures. Answers questions and provides information and/or written correspondence to customers; responsible for quality control and customer satisfaction. Initiates corrective action as necessary to resolve issues. Coordinates Section activities with those of other sections, departments, and outside agencies; coordinates joint projects with others; may coordinate the work of contractors. May provide cost estimates and billings for reimbursable work. Inspects the work of staff while in progress or for results desired; ensures that all necessary documentation is completed and processed accurately.
