We're currently seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team and support the maintenance of critical city vehicles and equipment. What You'll Do As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you'll play a vital role in maintaining and repairing a wide range of specialized vehicles and machinery, including: Fire equipment and emergency response vehicles. Heavy diesel trucks and refuse collection vehicles. Earth-moving and construction equipment with hydraulic systems. Your responsibilities will include: Performing preventative maintenance and safety inspections. Diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues using scan tools. Test-driving vehicles to verify repairs. Documenting services and repairs on work orders. Supporting emergency response efforts during severe weather events such as floods or storms. Why Work With Us? IDEAL CANDIDATE We're looking for candidates who bring a strong technical background and a commitment to public service. The ideal candidate will have: Knowledge in using fleet maintenance management software (i.e., Fleet Focus M5, Faster Asset Solutions) to enter repair information. SALARY Pay Range: $34.08 to $43.49 per hour. Hiring Range: $34.08 to $37.58 per hour. Pay Range Explanation: Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 251. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.
