Overview Twain Harte Tree Service is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Fleet & Equipment Maintenance Technician to help keep our trucks, heavy equipment, and small engines maintained and operating reliably. This part-time position combines hands-on mechanical maintenance with preventative maintenance scheduling, equipment inspections, parts purchasing, and organized recordkeeping. We're looking for someone with practical mechanical experience who can independently handle routine maintenance, troubleshoot common issues, and learn the specific equipment used in our tree service operations. You don't need to be an expert on every machine, but you should have a solid mechanical foundation, strong organizational skills, and the initiative to stay ahead of maintenance needs. Equipment includes: Bandit 1890XP wood chipper, Freightliner M2 106 boom truck, 2017 T5 95 skid steer, RAM trucks, stump grinders, wood splitters, chainsaws, and other company equipment. Duties Perform routine preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, fluid checks, belt replacements, and general equipment servicing at our yard. Inspect trucks and equipment for mechanical issues, leaks, worn components, tire condition, and other potential safety or reliability concerns. Perform basic mechanical repairs and adjustments, including chipper clutch adjustments, belt maintenance, and minor equipment troubleshooting. Maintain and repair chainsaws and other small-engine equipment, including replacing chains, bars, spark plugs, filters, and other serviceable components. Monitor tire pressure and tread wear, identify alignment concerns, and coordinate tire service, replacements, and alignments with local shops. Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules based on equipment operating hours, mileage, and manufacturer recommendations. Keep accurate, organized records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, parts purchases, receipts, warranties, and equipment service history in a centralized system. Research replacement parts, compare supplier pricing, order approved materials, and maintain an inventory of commonly used maintenance supplies. Identify repairs requiring specialized service, research qualified repair facilities, obtain estimates, and coordinate equipment drop-offs, pickups, and service appointments. Communicate equipment concerns, upcoming maintenance needs, and repair recommendations to management to minimize downtime and prevent avoidable breakdowns. Skills & Qualifications Practical, hands-on mechanical experience with vehicles, engines, machinery, or equipment maintenance. Basic understanding of gasoline and diesel engines, mechanical systems, belts, filters, fluids, and routine servicing procedures. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems, use hand and power tools safely, and follow equipment service manuals. Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently track maintenance schedules, document repairs, and manage multiple equipment needs. Comfortable researching parts, comparing prices, communicating with suppliers, and coordinating outside repair services. Willingness and ability to learn unfamiliar equipment, research maintenance procedures, and develop new mechanical skills. Dependable, detail-oriented, and proactive about identifying potential problems before equipment breaks down. Experience with hydraulic systems, commercial trucks, heavy equipment, wood chippers, or small-engine repairs is preferred but not required. Basic computer skills for maintaining digital service records, tracking maintenance, and ordering parts.
