Michigan Millers is seeking a Facilities Operations Intern to join our team in our Lansing office!


This role provides an opportunity to develop and grow real-world building operations and maintenance skills and knowledge, assist with a variety of projects, and make connections within our intern program.


Intern Program Summary:


Michigan Millers and Western National provides a robust internship program designed for individuals aiming to acquire valuable experience in the insurance industry. This program not only offers practical, hands-on opportunities and project work in partnership with our Facilities and Building Operations team; but interns will also have the opportunity to enhance their existing skill sets through a range of professional development activities, cultivate relationships with employees and fellow interns, and participate in impactful volunteer initiatives within the community.

Requirements

Position Summary:


As our Facilities Operations Intern, you will be a key contributor not only within the Building Operations team, but across the office departments, supporting our various teams with the opportunity to learn about the insurance industry. You will:

  • Provide daily customer service to employees regarding Facilities-related needs.
  • Maintain building interior and exterior spaces, including assisting with lawn maintenance.
  • Receive, record, deliver, and store stock; maintain inventory and organize storage areas.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of the loading dock for deliveries.
  • Install, move, and reconfigure cubicles and office furniture.
  • Set up conference rooms and common spaces for internal meetings and events.
  • Check fire extinguishers and maintain related inspection logs.
  • Test emergency lighting and document results.
  • Follow documented procedures carefully when maintaining or servicing office equipment.
  • Perform routine light-duty repairs/troubleshooting (e.g., door hardware, minor plumbing, furniture).
  • Assist with mail operations as needed.
  • Perform other miscellaneous tasks that arise on a daily basis.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Completed two years of college preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Outlook and Windows applications.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work professionally with all departments and employees.
  • Accurate and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Prior work experience with lawn maintenance preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work with machinery and a variety of tools at varying heights, lighting, temperature, noise and dust levels. Position requires work indoors and outdoors where conditions and temperatures may fluctuate.

Compensation overview


The base pay offered for this position will be $19.00/hour.
