Job Overview The Right Fit - We aren't looking to fill a bay with the first available mechanic. We're looking for someone experienced, trustworthy and capable who appreciates the independence of a small shop and sees value in learning from someone who has spent years building a business and customer base. If you've spent years fixing diesel equipment for someone else and have thought that someday you'd like to have a shop of your own, we'd like to talk to you. What Makes This Opportunity Different This is a quiet, small shop without layers of management, corporate policies or dealership politics. You'll work directly with the owner and have the opportunity to learn not only how the work gets done, but how the business operates. For the right person, this could develop into much more than a technician position. We are interested in finding someone who wants to build a future for themselves and who may ultimately want the opportunity to own an established diesel repair business rather than start one from scratch. There is no obligation or expectation that ownership happens overnight. Trust, ability and fit come first. Duties Perform comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, brakes, suspension, and electrical components across various heavy equipment including semis, dump trucks, excavators, cranes, forklifts, and farm machinery. Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire services, air brake inspections, wheel alignments, shocks & struts replacement, and HVAC system servicing to ensure optimal equipment performance. Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues accurately. Fabricate parts or modifications using welding and hand tools to meet specific repair or operational needs. Operate heavy machinery safely during repairs or testing phases to verify repairs on equipment like tractors-trailers or industrial machinery. Maintain detailed service records, inspection logs, and repair documentation to ensure compliance with safety standards and warranty requirements. Assist in training and mentoring apprentices while developing your own skills through hands-on experience in a collaborative team environment. Qualifications Experience with computers, diagnostic software, AI tools, parts research and modern shop technology is preferred but not required. Minimum 10 years diesel engine/heavy equipment experience Strong mechanical and diagnostic abilities Valid driver's license Dependable transportation Ability to work independently Good work history Strong professional references required Has strong diesel diagnostic and repair experience Is comfortable working on a variety of trucks, equipment and machinery Can troubleshoot rather than simply replace parts Works independently and takes pride in doing the job correctly Is dependable, honest and professional with customers Wants to work in a small-shop environment rather than a large dealership Is interested in learning the business side of running an independent repair shop Has strong, verifiable professional references This role is designed for motivated individuals eager to advance their career in heavy equipment maintenance while contributing to a safe and efficient work environment. We are committed to providing paid training opportunities that foster growth from apprentice levels up to fully qualified diesel technicians—empowering you every step of the way! Pay: From $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week Benefits: 401(k) 401(k) matching Flexible schedule Professional development assistance Experience: Diesel engine repair: 7 years (Required) License/Certification: CDL (Preferred) Ability to Commute: Danville, IN 46122 (Required) Work Location: In person
