Harrington's Auctioneers & AppraisersTravelling Appraisal & Purchasing Events | Harrington’s Auctioneers & Appraisers Harrington’s Auctioneers & Appraisers is seeking an experienced Art Appraiser / Buyer to join our travelling appraisal and purchasing team. Working as part of a team of two to three professionals, you will travel across Canada to meet clients, evaluate fine art, antiques, and collectibles, negotiate purchases, and secure auction consignments. You will also play an important role in planning and curating four to six auctions each year. We are looking for a knowledgeable art professional who combines sound appraisal judgement with strong sales and negotiation skills. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys building relationships and takes the initiative to develop new sources of consignments beyond our travelling events. Key Responsibilities Evaluate and appraise fine and decorative art, antiques, and collectibles, identifying suitable property for direct purchase or auction consignment. Meet with clients at Harrington’s travelling appraisal and purchasing events, providing knowledgeable, professional service. Research artists, makers, provenance, condition, and current market values to support accurate evaluations and acquisition decisions. Negotiate purchases and consignment agreements, developing strong, lasting relationships with clients. Plan and curate four to six auctions annually. Proactively seek new consignment opportunities outside our events through client outreach, networking, and relationships with collectors, estate professionals, and other referral partners. Work closely with the travelling team to deliver well-organized, successful events. Qualifications & Experience Experience evaluating and appraising fine art, supported by a background or education in Art History and strong general knowledge of antiques and collectibles. A minimum of 5 years of sales experience , preferably within an auction house, gallery, antiques business, or related field. Previous auction house or gallery experience is strongly preferred. Excellent interpersonal, sales, and negotiation skills, with the ability to establish trust and communicate confidently with clients. A self-motivated, proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively to a small team. Willingness to build a network of contacts and actively develop new sources of auction consignments. Ability to travel extensively across Canada, typically spending two weeks out of province every four to six weeks . A valid driver’s licence. Compensation & Benefits Base salary: Starting at $ 60,000 annually following a successful 90-day probationary period , A generous performance-based bonus structure provides significant additional earning potential, with typical total annual compensation of approximately $amount , including base salary and bonuses.
