Event Operations Technician
Okaloosa CountyGENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Provides event preparation and support services and facility and grounds maintenance services at Okaloosa County’s tourism venues. EXAMPLES OF WORK Transports and positions event related equipment to and from events at venues throughout the County. Sets up event related equipment and furnishings according to detailed diagrams, equipment listings and specific instructions contained in event orders to include securing and connecting telecommunication wires, power panels, and other operational wiring needs as well as audio/visual/lightning needs for events and functions. Assists A/V Technician to maintain and operate all video, audio and lighting equipment to provide presentations or special effects during events using a script or cues provided by client. Attends pre-event planning conferences with Event Coordinators, clients and contracted audio/video providers; offers technical advice, coordinates requirements and productions. Provides computer-related technical support to clients and familiarizes clients with house equipment to be used during events. Helps oversee contract labor used for events. Performs post-event tasks, to include equipment breakdown, removing trash and cleaning floors/carpet. Reviews event order documents to confirm/update final billing. Maintains event-related equipment through inspection, cleaning, and performing repairs; recommends upgrades and procurements to ensure products and services meet industry standards and technology progression. Operates motorized equipment and vehicles (i.e., grounds maintenance equipment, material handling equipment, and portable power tools). Monitors, manipulates, and assesses areas of electrical, HVAC, plumbing and structural surfaces within tourism venues to include adjusting and monitoring computer-based HVAC system settings and coordinating necessary repairs with the Facility & Parks Maintenance Department. Maintains, modifies, and repairs grounds by cleaning, planting, fertilizing, sprinkling, mowing, weeding and pruning as well as the related irrigation systems. Cross trains and assists with safety, security, and loss prevention measures (i.e., patrolling facility and property, monitoring surveillance systems, controlling public entrance and preventing unauthorized items from coming into the facility, etc.) as business demands and operational needs permit. Supports program operations outside of normal business hours, to include long days, occasional evenings, and weekends. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience: High School diploma or GED supplemented by one (1) year experience in the area of general maintenance including servicing and minor repair of electrical systems, plumbing systems, HVAC systems and structural surfaces; set up, maintenance and minor repair of electronic equipment, audio/visual equipment, sound boards and lighting systems, and custodial tasks; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in a publicly owned or operated event venue, arena, convention center or similar is preferred. Certifications and/or Licenses: Requires a valid driver license. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including trucks, light equipment, and a variety of hand-held and electrical equipment and tools. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to position self in confined areas, for work overhead and to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
