Dark Bay Construction LtdAbout Us Dark Bay Construction is a growing exterior cladding contractor based in Halifax, working on multi-residential and commercial projects across HRM. We install complete rainscreen wall systems, from air/vapour barrier and insulation through to the finished cladding and trims. Our team has grown from 7 to over 20-30 people in the last few years, and we're adding a dedicated Estimator to keep up with demand. The Role You'll own the numbers on new work. That means reading drawings and specs, doing full quantity takeoffs, getting supplier pricing, and building bids that are accurate and competitive. You'll work directly with the General Manager and have a real say in how our estimating process gets built. What You'll Do Review architectural drawings, wall sections, and specifications to understand the full exterior wall scope Complete detailed quantity takeoffs for all systems we install, including: Air/vapour barriers (self-adhered and fluid-applied) Exterior mineral wool insulation Girts, clips, and sub-framing ACM panels, metal siding and soffit, aluminum plank, fibre cement, and porcelain/ceramic rainscreen tile Flashings, trims, and accessories Send pricing requests to suppliers and manufacturers, follow up, and compare quotes Build and maintain a pricing database of materials, labour rates, and production rates so future bids are faster and more consistent Prepare bids, scope letters, inclusions/exclusions, and alternates for review Flag product substitutions, spec issues, and value engineering opportunities Track bid results and feed lessons learned back into the pricing database Hand off awarded jobs to the project team with a clean takeoff and budget What We're Looking For 2+ years of construction estimating, ideally with an exterior cladding, siding, or building envelope contractor Strong takeoff skills with Bluebeam or similar Comfortable in Excel; you'll be building and maintaining our pricing tools Understanding of how rainscreen wall assemblies go together, and the ability to spot what's missing from a drawing set Organized enough to juggle several bids with tight deadlines Comfortable calling suppliers and pushing for pricing and lead times Field experience in cladding or exterior work is a big plus What We Offer Salary: $70,000 Health and dental benefits Vacation / paid time off Company laptop and software A growing company where you'll build the estimating function rather than just plug into one Direct access to leadership To Apply Send your resume and a short note about the kind of projects you've estimated. Manage multiple estimates simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and maintaining accuracy throughout the process. Assist in the development of project schedules, budgets, and resource planning to support successful project execution. Requirements Proven experience in construction estimating with a focus on building envelope systems or related disciplines. Strong proficiency in construction estimating software Experience with Bluebeam is highly desirable. Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing while fostering positive relationships with vendors and subcontractors. Solid understanding of construction processes, materials, and industry standards related to building envelopes. Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively under tight deadlines. Effective communication skills for collaborating across teams and presenting estimates clearly.
