Delta Express IncPosition Summary: Delta Express Inc. is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Customs Entry Writer to support our customs brokerage and import operations. This role is responsible for preparing and processing U.S. Customs entries for air, ocean, and ground import shipments while ensuring accuracy, timely clearance, and compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements. The ideal candidate has hands-on customs-entry experience within a U.S. customs brokerage or freight-forwarding environment and can confidently manage multiple files, deadlines, regulatory requirements, and customer communications. Key Responsibilities: Prepare, review, and transmit U.S. Customs entries accurately and in compliance with CBP regulations and company procedures. Manage customs entries for air, ocean, and ground import shipments from receipt of documents through customs release. Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, air waybills, arrival notices, and related import documents for completeness and accuracy. Classify merchandise under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), and verify applicable duties, taxes, and fees. Validate country of origin, customs valuation, Incoterms, admissibility, and other entry data before submission. Prepare Entry Summary data, including CBP Form 7501 information, using the company brokerage system and ACE environment. Identify entries subject to Partner Government Agency requirements, including FDA, USDA, EPA, and other applicable agencies; coordinate required documentation and filings. Obtain missing, corrected, or clarifying documentation from customers and resolve entry discrepancies promptly. Communicate as needed with CBP, carriers, airlines, steamship lines, terminals, warehouses, and other service providers to facilitate clearance. Monitor shipment and entry status to support timely release and reduce avoidable delays, storage, demurrage, and related charges. Maintain complete, accurate entry files in accordance with CBP recordkeeping requirements and internal procedures. Follow established compliance procedures and escalate classification, valuation, regulatory, or admissibility questions when additional review is needed. Support post-entry corrections, documentation requests, internal file reviews, and other import-related activities. Coordinate with Import Operations, Freight Forwarding, Accounting, Sales, and Customer Service teams to ensure efficient shipment handling and billing. Provide customers with clear, professional updates regarding release status, documentation needs, holds, and clearance delays. Perform self-audits before entry submission and maintain a high standard of data accuracy. Learn and effectively use company TMS/CRM platforms, customs brokerage software, Microsoft Office, and other operational tools. Follow company SOPs, customer-specific instructions, and compliance requirements. Manage multiple shipments and priorities effectively in a fast-paced customs brokerage and freight-forwarding environment. Perform other customs brokerage and import-related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Minimum 3 years of direct, hands-on experience as a Customs Entry Writer in the U.S. customs brokerage or freight-forwarding industry; 3–5+ years preferred. Strong working knowledge of U.S. import regulations, CBP entry procedures, HTS classification, customs valuation, and import documentation requirements. Experience preparing and transmitting customs entries through ACE and customs brokerage software. Working knowledge of Partner Government Agency requirements and regulated commodities is strongly preferred. Ability to interpret commercial shipping documents and identify discrepancies before entry submission.
