At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight. As part of a diverse and hard-working team of engineers, you will design and develop ground-based fluid piping systems for a development program. You will be responsible for these systems’ complete product life cycle from initial definition through system operation. This includes all aspects of design, analysis, manufacturing, test support, data review, and maintenance. An emphasis will be placed on stress analysis for piping with large thermal gradients. Hardware responsibilities include high pressure storage & distribution systems, pneumatics, and other ancillary systems required to operate a novel architecture. You will need to have a strong technical background in fluid design and construction to code standards and regulations. The position will require some travel to Blue Origin sites to support development, maintenance, and operations. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, project management proficiency, and dedication to quality to positively Blue Origin’s mission. Passion for our mission and vision is required! Special Mentions Relocation provided Travel expected up to 20% of the time Interviews will include a technical assessment Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Technical ownership of fluid subsystems. Perform stress analysis for complex pressurized piping systems across large thermal gradients. Derive support loads and coordinate support schemes with civil/structural engineers. Work with internal and external production organizations to resolve challenges encountered during manufacturing or procurement of fluid systems. Work with operations team to fabricate, install, activate, and operate fluid systems. Ensure operations and maintenance activities are conducted consistently with design intent and defined requirements. Collaborate with technical designers and configuration managers to establish product structures and configuration control of owned subsystems. Work directly with Supply Chain to ensure cost and schedule effective sourcing. Demonstrated expertise in design and development of pressurized piping system architectures. Strong technical fundamentals. Proficiency in pipe stress analysis and associated tools (Autopipe, CAESAR, etc). Experience in performing fluid system sizing calculations, layout, component and material selection, and deriving concept of operations. Experience with hydraulic modeling tools (AFT Fathom/Arrow, HYSYS, etc.) In-depth knowledge of industry standards including ASME B31.3, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC). Experience generating plumbing and instrumentation documents (P&IDs). Experience guiding and mentoring less experienced engineers Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture.
