City of Grandview Heights The City of Grandview Heights is actively seeking highly motivated, mission-driven professionals for full-time Emergency 911 Dispatcher positions. This role is critical to public safety and demands individuals who perform with precision, confidence, and composure under pressure. Dispatchers operate from a newly constructed, purpose-built public safety facility, working directly among our officers and the fire department. Our center is equipped with state-of-the-art radios and call-handling systems, as well as enhanced 9-1-1 technology, to support critical operations. Our workstations are ergonomically designed and adjustable, supporting dispatcher health, alertness, and performance during extended shifts. Under the direct supervision of the 911 Communications Manager, answers all incoming 911 emergency and non-emergency police, fire, and medical calls. Inputs information in a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for law enforcement response and documentation. Radio dispatching of law enforcement personnel, monitors and manages multiple radio channels, telephone lines, CAD activity, and other communications systems simultaneously; access to criminal justice information that requires handling and dissemination of sensitive materials; directs callers and gives non-emergency information, enters data into criminal justice information systems; Handles confidential and sensitive law-enforcement information appropriately and ensures information is released only to authorized individuals; and performs other related duties as assigned. This position requires shift work in a team environment that can be stressful. We are a 24-hour hours/7-day-per-week operation, including weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays. Schedules may be 8 or 10-hour shifts that may require overtime with or without advance notice. To qualify for this position, you must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma (or equivalent), and be authorized to work in the United States. Within six months of hire, the selected candidate must qualify for Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS) certification and obtain a commission as an Ohio Notary. Training will be provided. The desired candidate will possess at least one (1) year of experience in a comparable capacity or two years of clerical, general office, or call center experience, with an average typing speed of 35 or more WPM. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, basic computer operations, including navigating systems, software applications, electronic databases, and other technology used to perform assigned duties, is required. Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, be able to work independently, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, read and understand maps, and maintain confidentiality. An Associate Degree and one or more years of experience in public safety emergency communications , or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, is preferred. Preferred candidates will possess certifications or knowledge of APCO, NENA, GIS, and NG911. Prospective candidates will be required to pass a background investigation, truth verification exam, and drug screen. Salary $55,000 - $85,000 per year (based on qualifications and experience). In addition, the selected candidate will earn a $1.30/hour shift differential for all hours worked on second and third shift.
