Job Overview Solade Day Care Center is seeking a knowledgeable, caring, and experienced Education Director to lead the educational programming of our NYC Department of Education/NYC Public Schools 2-K and 3-K Extended Day and Full Year programs. The Education Director will provide daily instructional leadership, supervise and support teaching staff, oversee curriculum implementation, and help maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. Working closely with the Executive Director, this individual will ensure that classroom practices support children’s development and meet applicable NYCPS Division of Early Childhood Education and NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene requirements. The ideal candidate understands how two- and three-year-olds learn through play, exploration, relationships, and everyday routines, and can translate that understanding into effective teaching practices and meaningful family partnerships. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee implementation of Solade’s Creative Curriculum, ensuring that learning experiences are appropriate for children’s ages, developmental stages, strengths, interests, and individual needs. Review lesson plans and classroom schedules, providing practical feedback to strengthen instruction and align programming with applicable early learning standards and NYCPS expectations. Supervise lead teachers, assistant teachers, and other classroom staff through regular observations, coaching, modeling, and constructive performance feedback. Coordinate staff meetings, collaborative planning, professional development, and onboarding related to curriculum, child development, classroom management, and program requirements. Ensure the extended day includes a balanced combination of play, small-group learning, outdoor or gross-motor activities, meals, rest, and responsive caregiving routines. Oversee developmental screening, including ASQ-3, and ongoing authentic assessment. Ensure required documentation and reporting are completed within applicable timelines. Help teachers use observations and assessment information to individualize learning experiences and identify children who may need additional support. Partner with families and appropriate service providers to support Early Intervention and preschool special education referrals, transitions, and implementation of applicable IFSPs and IEPs. Promote positive behavior guidance, social-emotional development, and respectful teacher-child interactions, consistent with NYCPS expectations for inclusive, non-exclusionary practices. Support culturally and linguistically responsive instruction, including children learning English alongside their home languages. Build strong family relationships through ongoing communication, conferences, workshops, and opportunities for family participation. Monitor classroom environments, materials, active supervision, and daily routines in collaboration with the Executive Director to support health, safety, and applicable staffing requirements. Maintain organized educational records, including lesson plans, child assessments, staff coaching documentation, and professional development records. Work with NYCPS coaches, support teams, and monitoring staff; use feedback and applicable classroom quality assessments to develop and follow through on improvement goals. Assist the Executive Director with teacher recruitment, educational supply planning, and documentation of staff qualifications and training. Provide on-site educational leadership and coordinate appropriate coverage consistent with applicable licensing and program requirements. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field acceptable to NYCPS and DOHMH.
