We’re looking for a Distribution Designer to support overhead and underground electrical distribution projects, including feeder replacements, equipment installations, cable upgrades, and new feeder designs for circuits up to 34kV. In this role, you’ll work closely with engineers, project managers, and field data collection teams to transform field information into accurate, construction-ready designs. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute throughout the project lifecycle, solve technical challenges, and help deliver solutions that meet client needs, project budgets, and industry standards. What You’ll Do Develop and draft electrical distribution design packages for overhead and underground utility projects, including new feeders, feeder replacements, cable upgrades, and distribution equipment installations. Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bills of materials, and other technical project deliverables. Perform distribution design calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading evaluations. Conduct pole loading analyses using tools such as PoleForeman, SPIDAcalc, O-Calc, or PLS-CADD. Apply the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), utility standards, engineering guidelines, and applicable regulations to project designs. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to validate field data and develop effective design solutions. Conduct occasional site visits and inspections of overhead and underground electrical facilities. Coordinate design considerations involving easements, right-of-way, permitting, vegetation management, third-party attachments, and outage planning. Develop technical reports, client presentations, and visual materials to communicate design findings and project progress. Support quality assurance, maintain technical consistency, and help ensure designs meet client requirements. Share technical knowledge, guide team members, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. What You’ll Bring Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Three or more years of electrical distribution design experience preferred. Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and power flow. Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or utility GIS platforms. Familiarity with pole loading analysis tools such as PoleForeman, SPIDAcalc, O-Calc, or PLS-CADD is beneficial. Knowledge of NESC standards, utility design requirements, easements, right-of-way, and distribution project permitting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
