Dispatcher/Scheduler - Container Transportation

Job Description Conrad Transport is seeking an experienced Dispatcher/Scheduler to join our operations team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia . The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating daily trucking operations, scheduling container pickups and deliveries, communicating with drivers, and ensuring the efficient movement of containers to and from port terminals and customer locations. We are looking for a highly organized, dependable individual takes pride in their work and providing our customers with exceptional service. Key Responsibilities Coordinate and dispatch trucks for daily container pickups, deliveries, and returns. Schedule and monitor container movements to and from Halifax port terminals, customer facilities, and container depots. Communicate with drivers throughout the day to ensure efficient scheduling and timely deliveries. Coordinate container availability, terminal appointments, pickup and return requirements, and delivery schedules. Monitor container free time and return deadlines to help minimize demurrage and detention charges. Work closely with customers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and terminal operators. Adjust schedules and dispatch assignments to accommodate delays, changing priorities, and operational requirements. Maintain accurate dispatch records within our ERP system, container information, and transportation documentation. Address and resolve day-to-day operational issues in a timely and professional manner. Ensure equipment and driver resources are utilized efficiently Qualifications and Experience Previous experience dispatching trucks involved in container transportation is strongly preferred. Knowledge of Halifax port operations, container terminals, and container transportation procedures including understanding of container pickup and return processes, terminal appointments, and shipping documentation. Knowledge of relevant regulations within the Transportation Industry including HOS, ELD’s, TDG, etc. Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess situations quickly and make informed decisions. Excellent communication skills when dealing with drivers, customers, and terminal personnel. Familiarity with phone systems and effective communication techniques is essential. Proficiency with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and dispatch software. Ability to work independently while maintaining a team-oriented approach. · Full proficiency in both written and spoken in English is required.
