Dispatcher/Freight Broker

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Dispatcher / Freight Broker with a strong understanding of open-deck transportation, including flatbed, step deck, hot shot, and specialized freight. This is a hands-on transportation role combining dispatch, carrier procurement, freight brokerage, customer service, and load management. The ideal candidate understands the pace of the trucking industry, communicates well with drivers and customers, and can manage freight from initial quote through final delivery. *Experience with flatbed and open-deck freight is strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities -Dispatch and coordinate company and/or third-party capacity for daily freight movements -Source and negotiate with qualified carriers for flatbed, step deck, hot shot, and other open-deck shipments -Assist with pricing based on equipment requirements, market conditions, mileage, and capacity -Build and maintain relationships with carriers, drivers, customers, and shipping/receiving facilities -Communicate pickup and delivery requirements clearly to drivers and carriers -Track shipments from pickup through delivery and proactively communicate status updates -Identify and resolve scheduling, equipment, routing, detention, and delivery issues -Verify equipment requirements including trailer type, dimensions, weight, tarping, securement, and other shipment-specific needs -Maintain accurate shipment information, rates, carrier documentation, PODs, and load notes within the TMS -Negotiate carrier rates while maintaining service expectations and acceptable margins -Develop reliable carrier capacity within key lanes and markets -Support existing customers and help identify opportunities for additional freight -Assist with prospecting, quoting, and developing new customer relationships as the role grows Preferred Qualifications -Previous experience in transportation, dispatching, freight brokerage, or logistics -Experience with flatbed, step deck, hot shot, or open-deck freight -Understanding of trailer types, weight and dimensional limitations, load securement, and open-deck transportation requirements -Strong carrier sourcing and rate negotiation skills -Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast-paced environment -Strong communication and problem-solving skills -Comfortable communicating directly with drivers, carriers, shippers, and customers -Experience using transportation management systems, load boards, and carrier-management tools -Basic understanding of FMCSA requirements, carrier qualification, and transportation documentation -Heavy haul and oversize/over-dimensional experience is a plus What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who takes ownership of freight rather than simply moving information from one person to another.
