MTRWesternDispatcher MTR Western is seeking a dependable, organized, and customer-focused Dispatcher to support the daily operation of city bus routes and special transportation services. The Dispatcher plays a critical role in coordinating driver coverage, communicating with drivers and customers, responding to service issues, and ensuring accurate completion of required documentation. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, communicates professionally, has strong organizational and computer skills, and can make sound decisions in a fast-paced transportation environment. Key Responsibilities Coordinate daily driver coverage for city bus routes, special events, and other transportation services. Monitor employee attendance and ensure drivers report to work as scheduled. Assign backup drivers and arrange shift coverage as needed. Maintain, manage, and update driver schedules, vacation requests, and shift coverage sheets. Plan and schedule drivers for special transportation services, including special events. Communicate route changes, service updates, instructions, and other operational information to drivers using telephone, two-way radio, and other communication technology. Answer telephone calls and respond professionally to customers, the public, drivers, management, and City staff. Provide accurate information regarding bus routes, detours, destinations, logistics, lost and found, and other service-related inquiries. Document customer complaints and service concerns with accurate details for appropriate follow-up. Maintain detailed dispatch logs documenting daily activities, incidents, service disruptions, and other operational occurrences. Contact emergency services and coordinate appropriate responses when necessary. Ensure drivers accurately complete and submit required paperwork, including DVIRs, incident reports, updated route sheets, and other operational documentation. Ensure positive check-in procedures are completed accurately and consistently. Monitor compliance with required daily vehicle inspections and ensure buses are cleaned daily in accordance with City contract requirements. Assist Maintenance with scheduling vehicles for deep cleaning and other required services. Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and other transportation-related data. Assist with the development and adjustment of routes and schedules. Report safety concerns, policy violations, operational issues, and other concerns to the Safety Supervisor and Operations Manager. Ensure operations comply with applicable BOLI and FMCSA regulations, Union Contract requirements, and City Contract requirements . Maintain a working knowledge of bus routes, stops, City codes of conduct, contractual requirements, and operational procedures. Remain available for on-call emergencies and weekend coverage as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Safety Supervisor. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities High school diploma or equivalent. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, clerical, and administrative skills. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Maps , and mapping/routing software. Ability to read and interpret maps and coordinate bus routes and schedules logically and efficiently. Ability to learn and maintain knowledge of routes, stops, schedules, and service requirements. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with drivers, coworkers, management, customers, and City staff. Strong judgment and the ability to make sound decisions independently, particularly during service disruptions or emergencies. Ability to remain calm, professional, and organized in stressful or rapidly changing situations. Ability to effectively handle customer concerns and complaints.
