Dispatch Coordinator - Day/Night Shift
Ascent TransportOverview: Ascent Transport is seeking a highly organized Dispatch Coordinator to support our trucking operations from our Nisku office. In this role, you will build jobs and driver rosters, coordinate drivers and equipment, and work closely with client dispatch teams to keep operations running safely and efficiently. You will monitor active jobs and drivers’ hours of service, respond to changing priorities, and help coordinate repairs when equipment issues affect the schedule. The right person can manage several moving parts at once, communicate clearly, and make sound decisions under pressure. Duties & Responsibilities: Including but not limited to; Receive, assess, and prioritize customer and client requests. Build and maintain jobs, driver rosters, and schedules based on requirements, driver availability, hours of service, equipment needs and other variables. Assign and manage drivers, trucks, trailers, and other resources effectively. Adjust assignments as resource availability changes. Work with client dispatch teams to coordinate schedules, confirm instructions, resolve conflicts, and keep information current in their corresponding systems. Complete timely and accurate data entry. Monitor drivers’ hours of service and available driving and on-duty time when planning and adjusting work. Track active jobs and communicate updates, delays, changes and any other relevant information to drivers, customers, and client dispatch teams. Assist with coordinating truck and trailer repairs by communicating issues to service, arranging alternative resources, tracking equipment availability, and adjusting plans as needed. Respond and adjust to breakdowns, scheduling conflicts, and other operational issues to minimize disruptions. Maintain organized and accurate records. Perform other related duties as assigned or as needed. Qualifications: Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple jobs, driver rosters, equipment assignments, communications and competing priorities accurately. Proven ability to work extremely well under pressure. Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to give clear instructions, provide timely updates, and work effectively with drivers, clients, dispatch teams, and maintenance personnel. Strong technical skills and the ability to learn, navigate, and work efficiently across multiple dispatch, tracking, electronic logging, and client specific systems. High attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, timely data entry and record keeping. Sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to anticipate problems and follow through on solutions. Class 1 driver’s licence or previous experience with trucking operations and federal hours of service requirements is an asset. What We Offer: 9 on/5 off shift, 12 hours per day with exception of 2 day crossover at beginning and end of rotation, crossover days will be 8 hours/day. Shift hours are 6am – 6pm, crossover shift hours are 6am – 2pm. Shift differential for night shift.
