SUMMARY 

As the Director of Retail Operations, this role plans, directs, and coordinates all retail sales activities, including processing, merchandising, purchasing, new goods, and donation collection across stores and neighbor-island collection points. The Director of Retail Operations works closely with eCommerce and logistics teams to ensure proper transportation, salvage, and waste-reduction practices. This position is responsible for developing plans and achieving goals related to sales, net revenue, and operational objectives through direct reports and department supervisors. As the Director of Retail Operations, the role ensures standardization of key operating principles within the donated goods retail (DGR) program. The Director of Retail Operations also oversees best practices, DGR optimization, and production productivity as measured by monthly production and sales performance standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. 

  • Oversee retail sales operations, support services, and operating policies to meet profit, market share, and growth goals across brick-and-mortar, eCommerce, and waste-reduction programs.
  • Research and analyze financial, technological, demographic, and competitive factors to identify market opportunities and guide strategic decisions.
  • Establish and manage sales, donation, and goods-marketing goals while monitoring budgets, controlling expenditures, and allocating operating funds.
  • Direct product and service promotion to increase market share, expand into new markets, and maintain competitive positioning.
  • Review operational performance data, policies, and procedures to ensure adherence to best practices and maximize productivity, including leading training, audits, and corrective action.
  • Prepare and manage internal and external operational reporting, review loss-prevention data, collaborate with administrative and logistics teams, and adjust retail strategies based on market analyses.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or
  • Equivalent education, training, and a minimum of 5 years of related experience demonstrating the ability to meet the position’s requirements;

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Periodic travel is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle.
  • Must have a traffic abstract that meets company guidelines.
  • Must have current vehicle safety inspection and registration.

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in a number of different working environments. Part of regular duties will include time spent in an office, travel via motor vehicle and plane, holding business meetings at various locations and providing guidance to operational staff. Work hours may vary depending on requirements of store and staff operations, safety and security, as well as projects that may occur during non-traditional work schedule hours.
