    Location: Washington Education Services Building
    Assignment:  Year Round - 12 Months
    Hours:  Full Time, Monday through Friday
    FLSA Status:  Exempt
    Salary:  At Will Individual Employment Agreement. Salary range is $80,000 to $100,000/year.

    Position Summary:
     
    The Director of Transportation Services is responsible for the overall management of the transportation department to assure efficient operations and to provide for the safety of transporting students.


    Essential Job Functions:

    • Plan, recommend, implement and monitor transportation for students.
    • Work collaboratively with the management of the District's private bus contractor to ensure a smooth, efficient, and effective transportation program.Determine and enter student information into electronic systems for transporting purposes.
    • Ensure Special Education bus routes meet the needs of students.
    • Operate a school bus, school van, wheel chair, lifts and other assistive devices.
    • Supervise and direct the work of the Transportation Manager.
    • Communicate with the District's transportation vendor via email, text, phone and radio.
    • Establish procedures and preventative maintenance of school district vehicles.
    • Oversee training of drivers, office staff and transportation aides as needed.
    • Assist in the screening, interviewing and selecting of candidates for employment.
    • Manage and supervise the Transportation Manager.
    • Organize and oversee regular and required training sessions.
    • Provide feedback to the transportation vendor on the performance of bus drivers.
    • Direct and supervise the District routing plan and implementation.
    • Develop specifications, procedures and summaries for school district purchases.
    • Ensure all school district student transport vehicles are registered, licensed, insured, and meet state inspection standards.
    • Maintain systems for financial accountability.
    • Monitor transportation expenditures. Ensure vendor invoices are accurate and paid in a timely manner.
    • Responsible for in-servicing of transportation employees.
    • Attends board meetings as a resource person as requested.
    • Attend and participate in cabinet and administrative meetings.
    • Make recommendations concerning budget and needs.
    • Monitor weather conditions with the Transportation vendor and advise the Superintendent on weather related closures.
    • Coordinate reports and records as required.
    • Inspect student discipline referrals and handle situations as determined by district discipline policy.
    • Drive routes in emergency situations.
    • Organize meetings and collaborative opportunities for safety and benefit of all students.
    • Participate in the District's Crisis Response Team.
    • Performs other work duties as assigned.


    Required Qualifications:

    1. Education: Associate's Degree or technical school certification in a related field is required.   Additional relevant experience beyond the minimum identified below may be considered in lieu of a post secondary degree.
    2. Experience:At least three (3)  years of full time professional work experience in transportation and routing. Prior leadwork or supervisory experience.
    3. Certification (s): Valid Minnesota CDL license with school bus endorsement required or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire. Certified in First Aid/CPR required within 90 days of hire with ongoing certification. Must obtain designated ICS certifications within the first year of employment
    4. Ability to read, understand and follow directions in English.
    5. Experience using the MS Office Suite and/or Google Docs and transportation routing software.
    6. Knowledge of special education transportation requirements.
    7. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    8. Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

       

    Preferred:

    1. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
    2. Familiarity with school specific software relevant to the position.
    3. Bilingual or multilingual skills.

       

    Physical Requirements: 

    1. Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer.
    2. Ability to move throughout the workspace, including walking, standing, bending, or reaching occasionally.
    3. Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, other standard office equipment and other handheld devices particular to the profession.
    4. Visual acuity to read printed materials, digital screens, and perform work requiring close vision.
    5. Hearing and speech abilities sufficient to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in group settings.
    6. Occasional lifting and carrying of materials or equipment, typically not exceeding 20�25 pounds.
    7. Ability to manage moderate levels of stress, deadlines, or competing demands inherent in a professional work environment.
    8. Mobility to attend meetings or training sessions both on- and off-site and the ability to travel between multiple worksites as directed.
    9. Physical dexterity to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License.
