About the Department : The Transportation Department at Round Rock ISD is dedicated to safely providing reliable, efficient, and student-centered transportation services across the district. About the Role : Round Rock ISD is seeking an experienced, operationally minded leader to serve as our Director of Transportation. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role directs the daily operations, personnel, fleet logistics, and financial activities of the entire Transportation Department. As Director, you will oversee bus routing, fleet safety, regulatory compliance, staff development, and campus/community relations to maintain an efficient and dependable transportation network serving thousands of students daily. Key Responsibilities : Operational & Fleet Leadership: Direct daily district-wide transportation operations, fleet maintenance, and dispatch services to ensure dependable, on-time service. Routing & Logistics: Oversee the development and administration of efficient bus routes, scheduling protocols, and ridership tracking systems. Fiscal & Policy Management: Formulate and manage departmental budgets, allocate operational resources, and ensure strict compliance with federal, state (TEA/State Board of Education), and local district policies. Personnel Management: Lead recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and retention efforts for transportation personnel; establish clear performance standards and recognize staff achievements. Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full adherence to safety guidelines, vehicle inspection protocols, driver licensing/certification standards, and emergency response plans. Stakeholder & Campus Collaboration: Work closely with campus principals, district leadership, parents, and community partners to address concerns, resolve service issues, and enhance customer satisfaction. Continuous Improvement: Analyze transportation data, fleet metrics, and operational trends to improve route efficiency, reduce downtime, and drive service quality. Qualifications : Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Experience: Minimum of 5 years of related operational experience in transportation or fleet operations, including at least 2 years in a direct supervisory capacity. Experience in public school district transportation is strongly preferred. Licensing/Credentials: Must maintain or be eligible to obtain a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, and meet district vehicle liability standards. Knowledge & Skills: Strong working knowledge of school transportation safety standards, bus routing and dispatch principles, departmental budgeting, and staff supervision. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with campus administrators, families, and operational staff. Why Round Rock ISD?
