DIRECTOR OF SAFETY - TRUCKING COMPANY OTR FLATBED

On-site in Elgin, IL 60123 | 1099 Contract Compensation: based on experience & results UE LINE INC is hiring a high-impact Safety Director to take full control of safety operations across our entire fleet. This is the most critical role in the company — you will be responsible for reducing violations, improving CSA scores, enforcing compliance, and building a top-tier safety culture. We are not looking for average. We need someone aggressive, detail-oriented, and results-driven who can identify problems fast and fix them immediately. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Take full ownership of FMCSA compliance, CSA scores, and overall safety performance Reduce Unsafe Driving, HOS, and inspection violations quickly and measurably Lead and manage a team of Safety Coaches (daily driver calls, coaching quality, accountability) Implement and enforce strict safety policies, a clear discipline structure, and corrective actions Oversee ELD compliance, logbook audits, and violation tracking through daily monitoring Analyze inspection data, accidents, root causes, and trends Build and execute a 3-month improvement plan with weekly measurable results Conduct driver training, orientation, and in-person corrective sessions Work closely with dispatch, operations, and recruiting to enforce safety standards Handle accident investigations, DOT audits, and broker safety inquiries Implement incentive and penalty programs (bonuses, violations, terminations) REQUIREMENTS Proven experience in trucking safety and FMCSA compliance (REQUIRED) Strong understanding of CSA, HOS, ELD, and DOT inspections Experience managing safety teams and driver coaching programs Tough, direct, and able to enforce rules without hesitation Data-driven mindset with strong analytical and reporting skills Hands-on leader who is involved in daily operations Available evenings and weekends for emergencies or urgent situations WHAT WE EXPECT Immediate impact on safety scores and violations Full control and accountability Strong leadership and daily execution Clear communication and structured processes (SOPs, KPIs) If you are confident you can take control, fix problems fast, and build a strong safety system, we want to speak with you.
