Director of Risk Management & Compliance – Transportation & Logistics

K & R Sales is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Director of Risk Management & Compliance to lead our organization's risk management, transportation safety, regulatory compliance, insurance administration, and claims management functions. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in the transportation and logistics industry , with a strong understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations, driver qualification requirements, safety programs, and commercial transportation operations. Hands-on experience with Tenstreet, McLeod, and other driver management and compliance systems is required. This is a leadership position requiring a proactive, detail-oriented professional who can identify organizational risks, implement effective compliance strategies, improve operational processes, and collaborate with leadership across multiple departments. Key Responsibilities Transportation Safety & Regulatory Compliance Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable transportation laws. Manage driver qualification file (DQF) compliance, Hours of Service (HOS), drug and alcohol testing requirements, and regulatory documentation. Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of driver records, safety documentation, certifications, and regulatory reporting. Utilize Tenstreet, McLeod, and related driver compliance platforms to monitor, maintain, and improve compliance processes. Oversee driver onboarding compliance, qualification verification, and ongoing regulatory requirements. Monitor regulatory developments and implement necessary policy and procedural changes. Coordinate and oversee DOT audits, regulatory inspections, and corrective action plans. Risk Management & Loss Prevention Develop and implement comprehensive risk management strategies to minimize operational, financial, legal, and reputational exposure. Identify potential risks across transportation, logistics, safety, and administrative operations. Analyze safety trends, accident frequency, claims history, and compliance metrics to recommend preventive measures. Establish and monitor carrier onboarding and vetting standards, including authority verification, safety ratings, SMS/BASIC scores, and fraud prevention. Implement controls to minimize cargo theft, identity theft, double brokering, fictitious pickups, and other transportation-related fraud. Insurance & Claims Management Oversee commercial insurance programs, including auto liability, general liability, workers' compensation, cargo, property, cyber, and umbrella coverage. Manage accident investigations, insurance claims, and coordination with brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators. Review claims activity, identify trends, and recommend strategies to reduce losses and overall insurance costs. Coordinate insurance renewals and evaluate coverage levels to ensure adequate organizational protection. Compliance Programs, Training & Audits Develop, update, and enforce company policies, procedures, and internal compliance controls. Conduct internal compliance reviews and safety audits to identify areas for improvement. Investigate safety concerns, regulatory violations, and compliance-related incidents. Develop and deliver training programs covering transportation regulations, safety, compliance, and organizational policies. Maintain thorough documentation supporting audits, investigations, and corrective actions. Leadership & Strategic Collaboration Partner with executive leadership, Human Resources, Operations, Safety, Finance, and other departments to promote accountability and compliance. Provide guidance and recommendations regarding organizational risk exposure and regulatory requirements. Develop and maintain risk and compliance reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators.
