Your Role The Construction Purchasing Director oversees procurement for all construction projects. This includes sourcing materials, equipment, and subcontracted services. The role requires negotiating pricing and delivery terms, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring timely delivery to job sites. The Director works closely with project teams to forecast needs and align purchases with project schedules. This role also monitors budgets and controls costs across multiple projects. The Director oversees order tracking, resolves escalated delivery issues, and ensures compliance with company policies and contract terms. Accurate recordkeeping and supplier performance evaluations are essential to maintaining efficiency and accountability. Key Drivers and Responsibilities Process Improvement Map current workflows for estimating, procurement, scheduling, and billing. Build standard operating procedures and visual work instructions. Run kaizen events and pilot changes with field and office teams. Track KPIs and publish weekly dashboards. Operations and Administration Lead material buyout at preconstruction handoff, including job kickoff packets, purchase orders, and subcontracts. Maintain vendor and subcontractor records, COIs, and compliance documentation. Own change order intake, routing, and status control. Support scheduling and resource plans across crews and projects. Manage document control in Procore or similar platforms. Finance Support Prepare job cost reports and variance flags in partnership with project accounting. Reconcile purchase orders, goods receipts, and invoices. Assist with WIP updates, billing schedules, and collections follow-up. Maintain cost codes and ensure correct coding by project teams. Procurement Strategy and Sourcing Develop and execute the company-wide sourcing strategy for gypsum board, metal framing, acoustical ceiling systems, and other key materials. Negotiate supply agreements, volume pricing, rebates, and payment terms with manufacturers and distributors. Track commodity pricing and lead times, and manage material price-escalation risk on bid and awarded projects. Data and Tools Maintain dashboards in Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms. Improve data quality through validations and simple automations. Evaluate supplier performance based on price, quality, and on-time delivery, and publish vendor scorecards. Leadership and Collaboration Partner with Operations, Finance, Safety, HR, and IT. Hire, lead, and develop buyers and purchasing coordinators. Establish purchasing authority limits and approval controls. Maintain accurate records of purchases and inventory. What we are looking for... Construction industry experience required; drywall or self-perform trades preferred. Proven record of reducing material costs and improving purchasing processes.
