Director of Operations—Operations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Facility Management, Engineering or Construction Management.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
- Knowledgeable of OSHA, AHERA, DPS, NNEPA regulations and building codes.
- Must have thorough understanding of computer programs related to construction, custodial, and maintenance department.
- Five (5) years of successful experience in a managerial capacity over custodial, transportation, maintenance and grounds operations preferred.
- Must have knowledge of procurement and purchasing and successful experience in effectively managing a budget.
- Previous successful leadership experience and continued ability to work with pupils, staff, parents, vendors, contractors, and the general public.

SUPERVISES
All employees in the department of maintenance, grounds, housing maintenance, custodial and transportation.
JOB GOAL
To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills so as to provide the efficient, effective operation of each department supervised.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops, establishes and provides supervision for the departments of maintenance, grounds, housing maintenance, custodial and transportation.
- Prepares and administers the budget for maintenance, grounds, custodial, construction, transportation and housing maintenance.
- Supervises the comprehensive overall planning and scheduling of maintenance and repair requirements of the District.
- Schedules regular training for each department (mechanical systems, roofing, grounds, bus and vehicle maintenance) and other areas as necessary.
- Supervises the inspection of all school buildings, grounds and installations on a regular basis to determine that high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, safety, and security are maintained.
- Supervises the organization and implementation of a preventative maintenance program for buildings, grounds, vehicles, etc.
- Conducts a District-wide program of safety education and accident prevention.
- Meets weekly with the District administrative team.
- Attends preconstruction planning conferences and meetings with architects and other key team members in planning for new construction and on-going construction projects until completion.
- Directs the preparation of graduation, playing fields, grounds and other necessary facilities for athletics and other school activities or events.
- Evaluates the District's operations program on a continuing basis and recommends changes as necessary to the superintendent.
- Maintains a coordinated inventory control program for all areas of each department supervised.
- Assists and approves the recruitment, employment, re-assignment, transfer, promotion, demotion, or dismissal of employees of all operations departments.
- Conducts a continuing program of staff training and personnel development.
- Devises comprehensive and efficient systems of recordkeeping in accordance with the particular needs of his/her departments and the policies, regulations and laws affecting his/her departments.
- Conducts regular staff meetings as needed to interpret changes in Governing Board Policy or administrative rules, to discuss development, and to evaluate trends in education as they pertain to the areas of assigned responsibility.
- Works cooperatively with other administrators in integrating and coordinating individual efforts into a unified program for the District.
- Assists and provides guidance on District Crisis Management plan and drills and works with various agencies in the community to align resources.
- Ensures collaborative working relationships with Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Navajo Division of Transportation (NDOT), Navajo County, Chapters, and any other entity that may assist supporting District functions.
- Attends and participates in all meetings of the Governing Board and its committees, and gives monthly written reports, and oral reports as requested by the superintendent.
- Prepares and submits reports and other documents as required by the superintendent and the Governing Board.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve months a year, on an Administrative Salary and Exempt position. The Governing Board will establish salary and work year.
