Director of Operations
ConfidentialWe make the rubs, sauces, and recipes that help people grill with confidence. We're looking for a hands-on operations leader to make sure every bottle gets from our copackers to the shelf on time, in compliance, and at a profit. About Hey Grill Hey Hey Grill Hey is a BBQ and grilling brand on a mission to help people grill with confidence and gather around great food. We started in 2015 as a self-funded content platform and have grown into a full-scale consumer products company. Today that means recipes, our own line of seasonings and sauces, The Grill Squad membership community, and a loyal audience across social media. Our products sell direct to consumer, on various platforms like Amazon and TikTok Shop, and through wholesale and retail partners. The Role As Director of Operations, you'll own everything between "we have a product" and "it's on the shelf, profitably." That covers copackers, inventory, fulfillment, retailer compliance, product data, and food safety. You'll be the person who knows which SKUs make money in which channels, and why. This is a hands-on leadership role at a lean company. You'll set strategy and build systems, and you'll also pull the report, call the copacker, and fix the purchase order yourself when it needs fixing. What You'll Do Run supply chain and production. Manage our copackers and ingredient and packaging suppliers, from scheduling and quality standards to pricing and lead times. Own demand forecasting and inventory planning across every channel, balancing in-stock rates against cash tied up in product. Get product where it needs to go. Oversee DTC and wholesale fulfillment with our 3PL partners. Keep us compliant with retailer routing guides, labeling, and ASN/EDI requirements so chargebacks stay low. Know where the margin is. Build and maintain SKU-level profitability by channel, covering COGS, fulfillment, fees, advertising, and labor. Spot structurally unprofitable SKUs and recommend the fix, whether that's repricing, reformulating, repackaging, or exiting a channel. Partner with Marketing and Sales on ad efficiency and with leadership on pricing. Own product data and systems. Run our product information system (currently Airtable) as the single source of truth for SKUs, UPCs/GTINs, ASINs, retailer item numbers, pricing, and packaging specs. Manage GS1 assignments, keep reporting clean across Shopify, Amazon, and retail partners, and choose the right tools as we scale (inventory management, EDI, ERP). Be the operational partner to our retailers. Act as the point of contact for retail buyers and vendor teams on item setup, vendor portals, and compliance. Support new retail launches with production planning, initial orders, and replenishment. Own food safety, QA, and compliance. Hold copackers to quality agreements and agreed specs, keep labeling compliant across every product and retailer, and build recall readiness through traceability and a clear response plan. Review broker, distributor, and vendor contracts, bringing in outside counsel as needed. Build the team and the cadence. Lead and grow the operations team (currently one direct report). Put in place the KPIs, SOPs, and operating rhythms that make the business less dependent on any one person's memory. What You Bring 5+ years in operations or supply chain at a consumer packaged goods brand, including at least 3 in a leadership role Direct experience managing copackers or contract manufacturers, ideally in food, sauces, or seasonings Hands-on experience with Amazon (Seller Central and/or Vendor Central, FBA) and at least one major retail partner, such as Costco, Target, or a hardware or sporting goods chain Strong financial acumen: you can build a SKU P&L and explain exactly where margin is leaking Working knowledge of UPCs/GS1, retailer compliance, and EDI Working knowledge of food safety and regulatory requirements (FDA labeling, SQF, allergen management), and comfort owning copacker quality agreements and recall readiness Fluen…
