Overview
The Director of Operations is a senior leader and member of the company’s Leadership Team, responsible for translating company strategy into efficient, scalable day‑to‑day execution. In a 45‑person company, this role is both strategic and hands‑on: owning core operational systems while actively solving problems, improving processes, and supporting team leaders across the organization.
This role partners closely with the President and other members of the Leadership Team to ensure Red E, LLC runs smoothly today while being built to scale for tomorrow.
Reporting Structure

Direct reports: HR, IT, Accounting, Order Fulfillment, Operations, Facilities, and Engineering (operational only) teams

Summary: The Director of Operations owns the full execution engine of the business — people, systems, and delivery. This role manages internal enablement and fulfillment teams, while partnering closely with Sales, Marketing, Service, and Customer Support to ensure demand, capacity, and delivery stay aligned. Business Improvement initiatives sit outside the role to provide focused, objective support and continuous optimization across the organization
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Strategy
- Translate company goals into clear operational plans, priorities, and metrics
- Design and evolve operating rhythms (OKRs, KPIs, dashboards, reviews)
- Identify operational risks and proactively develop mitigation plans
- Act as a thought partner to the CEO on scaling the business
Process Design, Execution & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate, design, document, and continuously improve core business processes across teams
- Establish a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and data‑driven decision‑making
- Lead ongoing efforts to identify inefficiencies, eliminate waste, and reduce operational friction
- Drive root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring issues
- Ensure processes are simple, repeatable, measurable, and scalable
People & Team Enablement
- Support managers with workforce planning, capacity management, and performance systems
- Partner with HR/People Ops on hiring plans, onboarding, and retention initiatives
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and decision‑making frameworks
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and operational excellence
Financial & Resource Management
- Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
- Monitor unit economics, margins, and operational spend
- Ensure teams are resourced appropriately to meet business goals
- Support vendor selection, contract negotiation, and cost optimization
Systems & Tools
- Own selection, implementation, and optimization of operational tools and systems
- Ensure systems are integrated, adopted, and delivering value
- Balance automation with practicality in a growing organization
Cross‑Functional Execution
- Lead complex, cross‑functional initiatives from planning through execution
- Serve as a central point of coordination for company‑wide projects
- Ensure priorities are aligned and teams are moving in the same direction
Success Metrics

Qualifications
Required
- 8–12+ years of experience in operations, business management, or related roles
- Experience operating in a small to mid‑sized (30–150 employee) company
- Proven track record of building and improving operational systems
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to lead through influence as well as direct authority
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred
- Experience scaling a company through rapid growth or change
- Background in consulting, operations leadership, or general management
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar frameworks
- Experience working closely with founders or executive teams
