Reporting directly to the President, the Director of Operations (DO) is responsible for ensuring the segment efficiently operates with policies and procedures to effect optimal business outcomes. This role aligns and executes across and in partnership with human resources, information technology, professional development, performance management, and overall business functions to remove friction and enable program managers and engineers to focus on delivery.
The DO serves as a special projects and execution lead to the President, coordinating priority initiatives, maintaining operational focus, and driving follow-through across the organization. This position translates leadership intent into action, ensures internal processes are functioning, and closes gaps that impact workforce readiness and program execution.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Drive execution across all business operations functions, ensuring HR, IT, training, and performance processes are aligned to support program delivery.
- Serve as the central coordination point between the business unit and corporate services, ensuring responsiveness to workforce and operational needs.
- Act on behalf of the President to drive priorities, enforce accountability, and ensure follow-through across internal initiatives.
- Oversee workforce actions including hiring, onboarding, personnel changes, and organizational alignment in coordination and partnership with HR.
- Ensure personnel have the tools, system access, and IT support required to execute without disruption.
- Lead professional development and training efforts to maintain workforce readiness and alignment with customer and company expectations.
- Manage performance management processes, including goal alignment, evaluation cycles, and leadership visibility into workforce performance.
- Establish and maintain operational battle rhythm, including task management, reporting, and internal communications.
- Identify and resolve operational gaps impacting execution, workforce effectiveness, or organizational efficiency.
- Support onboarding and integration of new programs, personnel, and capabilities into the business unit.
- Assist in workforce planning, resource alignment, and organizational design to support growth and execution.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience operating in a business operation, administrative, or execution-focused leadership role supporting complex organizations.
- Experience working directly with senior executives, with responsibility for driving priorities and coordinating across multiple functional areas.
- Background supporting or managing workforce functions such as hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management.
- Experience coordinating with enterprise support functions including HR, IT, and corporate services.
- Proven ability to operate independently, prioritize competing demands, and deliver results in fast-paced environments.
- Experience supporting programs, portfolio, or mission execution in defense, government, or technology organizations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Operations Manager, Chief of Staff, Operations Officer, Administrative Officer, or similar role supporting senior leadership.
- Experience in defense, aerospace, or government contracting environments.
- Background supporting geographically dispersed teams and complex organizational structures.
- Experience improving processes, establishing operational rhythm, and scaling internal operations.
- Active-duty military experience or familiarity with military training is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Clearance Requirements
Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information. Positions that require this access will be required to receive and maintain a U.S. government personnel security clearance (PCL). In order to qualify for this position, the candidate must be a US Citizen and either currently possess this National Security eligibility or be able to complete the investigation application process with a favorable determination and maintain that eligibility throughout their employment.
