DIRECTOR, FLEET SAFETY
Dollar GeneralThis position is the senior-most safety manager for all private fleet safety operations and programs. Responsible for day?to?day safe operations of the private fleet and accountable for developing extensive safety processes, policies, procedures, and training programs. Must be an expert on DOT, FMCSA, and CSA regulations to ensure full compliance at federal, state, and local levels. Serves as primary liaison with JJ Keller, Safety Direct, Omnitracs, and Vertical Alliance to ensure driver files, training, and safety requirements are met. Job Responsibility Manage all aspects of private fleet safety and training across all fleet DCs, including orientation, accident reviews, remedial safety training, and post?accident BAT/drug testing. (70%) Create, manage, and implement safety KPIs and scorecards ensuring best?in?class CSA scores, DOT audits, and FMCSA ratings. Manage annual private fleet safety budget and monitor accidents/injuries/safety cost per mile. Reduce risk to drivers through training and development programs that reduce injuries and accident costs. Lead and develop on?site safety supervisors including SMITH System Training and remedial road tests. Build strong relationships with drivers, site leaders, and maintenance teams through daily interaction and safety meetings. Evaluate safety performance of all drivers and identify training needs; partner with tractor manufacturers on safety specifications. Hire, manage, and conduct performance reviews for assigned team; oversee workload, coaching, and development. (15%) Develop and execute strategies, design processes, and continuously improve fleet safety programs using technology and software systems. (15%) Job Qualifications Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and CSA programs. Understanding of paper/electronic logs, Hours of Service, and SMITH System. Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills. Detail?oriented with strong independent work skills. Ability to work in team environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Flexible work hours; ability to work outdoors in all conditions. Up to 50% travel. Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree required. 8–10+ years of work experience including 5+ years in transportation fleet leadership and 10+ years managing/directing safety operations for medium/large truckload carriers. Experience in multi?site transportation support environments. Proven leadership in transportation/logistics/supply chain environments.
