About Our Client We are partnering with one of our local clients to recruit a Light Duty Diesel Technician for their growing automotive operation. Our client is an established, privately owned, automotive dealership in Charlotte with a large and diverse inventory of pre-owned vehicles, including a significant number of diesel and heavy-duty trucks. They are looking for a dependable technician who brings strong mechanical ability, attention to detail, and an interest in continuing to develop their skills. Position Overview The Light Duty Diesel Technician will serve as an A-level technician responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered trucks and other vehicles within the dealership’s inventory. This position is a strong opportunity for an experienced technician with advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills who is comfortable working across a wide variety of domestic and import makes and models. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on automotive work, approaches problems methodically, and takes pride in completing repairs correctly and efficiently. Key Responsibilities • Inspect and diagnose mechanical and drivability concerns on light-duty diesel trucks and other vehicles. • Perform preventative maintenance and routine mechanical repairs. • Diagnose and repair diesel engine and related vehicle systems. • Troubleshoot basic electrical and electronic issues. • Perform vehicle inspections and identify needed repairs or maintenance. • Support the reconditioning and preparation of vehicles for sale. • Work on diesel pickup platforms including Ford Power Stroke, GM Duramax, and Ram/Cummins vehicles. • Install, diagnose, repair, or service aftermarket components and modified vehicles, including tuned platforms, superchargers, lift kits, lighting, and other performance upgrades. • Use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, lifts, and other shop equipment safely and effectively. • Communicate vehicle conditions, repair needs, and completed work clearly with other members of the team. • Maintain an organized, professional, and safe work environment. • Continue developing technical knowledge of diesel systems and automotive repair. Desired Qualifications • Approximately 1–5 years of relevant automotive or diesel mechanical experience. • Hands-on experience maintaining or repairing light-duty trucks or automobiles. • General understanding of diesel engine operation and related mechanical systems. • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. • Ability to safely operate common automotive tools and shop equipment. • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. • Dependable and comfortable working in a fast-paced automotive environment. • Valid driver’s license. Strongly Preferred • Experience working with Ford Power Stroke, GM Duramax, and/or Ram/Cummins diesel platforms. • Previous experience in a dealership, independent repair facility, fleet operation, or automotive shop. • Experience with diesel diagnostics. • Experience with diesel aftermarket components and modified vehicles, including tuning, superchargers, lift kits, lighting, and performance upgrades. • Automotive or diesel technical training or certifications. A Note for Diesel Enthusiasts Professional shop experience is preferred, but we also recognize that some talented technicians develop significant skills outside of a traditional automotive workplace.
